Travis Barker Speaks about his Own Addictionand Weighs in on Scott Weiland’s DeathPublished By: Erica Loret de Mola  Date: December 15, 2015

Travis Barker is no stranger to drugaddiction. The Blink­182 drummerknows all too well about the effects longterm drug use can do, and had somethings to say concerning ScottWeiland’s death, and his ownexperience.

In an interview with Billboard, TravisBarker speaks about his own addictionstory.  “I think it’s just ultimately whatdrugs do when they get the best ofsomebody. It’s sad. Myself, I wasaddicted to drugs for a long time andthe only way I was able to stop doing drugs was being in a plane crash and havingmorphine for 4 months when I didn’t want it. That’s what it took for me to get sober.

Barker was referring to the 2008 plane crash that included famed DJ, DJ AM (AdamGoldstein) and four others (including the two pilots). They were the only two whosurvived the crash, but came away from it critically injured. Ultimately, they werereleased from the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia fully recovered. Sadly, showing how powerful drug addiction can be, Goldstein eventually died thefollowing year of an accidental drug overdose. A drug relapse occurred due to a Xanaxprescription following the crash.

Barker explains how it feels to be an addict: “Whatever you’re masking when you’redoing drugs gets more severe the more you mask it. Everyday you’re doing it more andmore and you’re never facing what you’re running from — whatever that is. Themasking gets to be so dangerous. It is excessive. It’s unfortunate…I saw a video of him(Weiland) recently, he sounded great and he looked fine. But you never know whatdemons anyone is fighting.”

Police reports showed that cocaine and prescription drugs were found on Weiland’stour bus, however, there has not been an official cause of death. The former frontmanof the Stone Temple Pilots famously battled with drug addiction.
