Part of The Travel Psychologist SeriesNote: Some navigational features may not be available on all

devices.

Over the last four decades, I've interviewed nearly 1,750 world travelers and adventurers in my own tra-vels to more than 125 countries throughout the world. I am weaving their 10,000 or so fantastic travel tales into a psychology of travel as revealed by these very telling stories.

These are travelers I've met on planes, trains, buses, ships, tours, safaris, and in campgrounds, cafes, and pubs. These travelers have freely shared their most personal travel tales with me, which I, in turn, get to share with you now through my Travel Psychologist Travel Tales Series, in general, and the Travel Tales Monthly, here, in particular.

Each month a selection of noteworthy travel tales--10 at a time--including stories and brief vignettes, will appear in Travel Tales Monthly as a waypoint along their way into the ebooks in my series.

Travel tales are told here--but with this one unique difference--with my being the world's first travel psychologist, you'll get more of the psychological pay dirt behind the incredible travel tales told to me by these travelers.

About Travel Tales Monthly

Note: Some stories may be repeated in other eBooks in the series depending on the countries and subjects covered.

SCOUNDRELSMata Hari Watching Me

Shipboard, The Mediterranean, Early ‘70sby Winkelle Godfrey

Well, this story starts when a friend of mine and myself were on our way to France. He was going to work in Denmark for the summer; I was going to work in Norway, but we had decided to hitch-hike together as far as Denmark. We were on the boat just going over to Calais and he just had a little bit of dope left, and we thought --well just for fun--we'll have our last joint on the boat.

So we go out on the deck, and he carefully rolls a joint, and we start to smoke it as unobviously as possible. We were standing over on the side of the boat watching the sea gulls, handing the cigarette to each other back and forth, I suppose. I have a few puffs of it. It's pretty strong stuff he has. Then I get the usual feeling, but I just hap-pen to turn round, look around me a bit, and my friend is holding the joint, and I notice there's a man directly behind us holding a camera, and he has his camera pointed rather low. In fact, he just put it between his knees it seems to me, and I see him push the button and actually take a picture of what I believe is the joint in my friend's hand, and I remember panic instantly go over me. I think, "Christ, we're being busted." I remember next nudging my friend saying, "Come over here. I've just seen a man take a picture of the joint." "What? What are you talking about?" "I saw it happen. For God's sake get rid of the rest of the stuff." So he goes and he tips it all over the side into the sea. He put the joint out, and I immediately start
