Leisure

Shopping in Mallorca

-Porto Pí:

It is a big shopping centre which is a little far away from

the heart of the city. You can get there in 20 minutes by

bus. To get there you have to take the line 3 bus from

Plaça Espanya Sq. to the Porto Pí bus stop. It costs

1,50€.

It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is a great place to

buy a good variety of clothes and house complements.

There are famous shops, such as Berskha, Zara,

Springfield, Mango, Jack Jones and for young people,

there are skater shops like Kodigo.

-City centre:

The best streets to buy clothes in the city centre are:

Sindicat St.,Alexandre Rosselló Avenue,

Sant Miquel St., and for richer people Jaume III

Avenue.

In Alexandre Rosselló Avenue there are shops like

Zara, Springfield,

Berskha, Mango and El

Corte Inglés. They are

next to Plaça Espanya

Sq., so you don't have

to catch a bus to get

there as they are in the

city centre.

Sindicat St. and Sant Miquel St. are very similar. There

are a lot of little shops

to buy all kind of

clothes and shoes and

also there are famous

shops such as

Adidas, Apple, etc. If

you like skateboarding there are shops for you too, like

Devil next to Plaça Major Sq. and other longboard

shops.

In Jaume III Avenue there are a lot of shops too. It is a

good place to buy jewelery and clothes.There is another

El Corte Inglés and there are some restaurants too.

Ocimax

Ocimax is a centre for leisure time . It is in Palma. You can

do many different activities there.

There is a cinema with 15 screens, which costs 6.00€. There

are several well known restaurants, such as Foster

Hollywood, Pizzea, Ca Nostra... and two fast food stalls, a

small Burger King inside the centre and a huge McDonalds

close to Ocimax, that includes its own parking lot. There is

also a gym, three paddle courts, an arcade games area,

several pool tables and two bowling alleys. The capacity of

the parking place is limited to 80 cars.

You can get to Ocimax taking the bus number 16, 19 or 21

from Plaça Espanya Sq. The bus costs 1.50€, and it takes

about 15 minutes to get there. You can walk there too but

you will need about half an hour to get there.

Palma Aquarium

Palma Aquarium was opened in 2007, and it is one of the

best aquariums in Europe. Owned by Coral World

International, a global leader in recreational marine park, the

Majorcan aquarium covers an area of 12,000 square meters.

Conveniently located just 500 meters from the beach, its

facilities include 55

aquariums in which

there are 8,000

specimens from 700

different species of the

Mediterranean Sea and

the Indian, Atlantic and

Pacific. Palma Aquarium also includes. The Big Blue Shark,

which is the deepest shark aquarium located in Europe at

8.50 meters deep. The Jungle, the largest roof garden in

Spain is the largest collection of living corals in Europe.

Palma Aquarium received the "Award for Best Balearic

Entrepreneurship 2007", awarded by the Economic News

magazine.It was also presented with the "Accessibility

Award 2007" by the Council of Mallorca.

The opening time in winter: 10:00 until 16:30.

The opening time in summer : 10:00 until 18:30.

The bus numbers : 15, 21, 23, 25 and 31.

The price for non-residents: adults 20,50 €, children

(4-12) 16 € and children (0-3) free. The price for

residents: adults 16,50 €, children (4-12) 13,50 € and

children (0-3) free.

Festival Park

You have just arrived in Palma de Mallorca and want to

enjoy your time on the island? Don't worry! Have you ever

heard about Festival Park? It 's a shopping center situated

between Palma and Inca.

It's easy to get there, you can take the train line Palma-

Inca/Inca-Palma and get off at Es Caulls-Festival Park after

about forty minutes ride.The ticket costs 3.50 €

Once there, from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m., you can:

• Go shopping: Festival Park which is the only outlet

center in Mallorca provides you many kind of shops

with your favourite trademarks: Nike, Mango, El Corte

Inglés, Reebook and many others. They give you the

best quality at a low price.

• Have delicious meals in good restaurants where you

can find local and international dishes.

You can even find fast-food restaurants like

McDonalds.

• Go to the cinema in the Cinesa with its 24 screens

where you can watch all the latest films.

• Have some entertainment: While shopping you can

enjoy yourself in Bolera New Park (Mon-Thurs.), the

biggest on the island.There are also amusement

parks for children like Chiquifestival, Eurobungy and

Monkey Park.

And many other things wait for you there...

NIGHTLIFE IN PALMA DE MALLORCA PASSEIG MARÍTIM

The Passeig Marítim of Palma is to the west of the city

centre. It is one of the most popular places for tourists. This

place is where the parties continue during all night. In

Passeig Marítim you can find pubs, all kinds of clubs, discos,

restaurants, cafés...

There are pubs to dance salsa, such as “Made in Brasil” or

big discos like “Tito's” or “Abraxas”. People who love

commercial music, can go to “La Bolsa” or at the end of

Passeig Marítim, near Porto Pí, where there are the pubs

“Budha”, “Sarandonga”, “La Posada del Loro” and some

others.

El Divino: Disco with house and techno music with

national and international DJ's. Decoration and terrace.

Open daily in summer.

Tito's: This disco is situated at a height of 50 m from

the Passeig Marítim, and so it has beautiful views of the

sea because its facade is made of glass. lt Opens its

doors at 12:00 pm. You can only get in if you are 18

years old.

Abraxas: is famous for its parties and VIP area. There

is dance and electronic music in the main room with

wellknown DJs in the VIP lounge. There is also

Spanish music and pop. In summer it opens every day.

El que faltaba: The music is great and the atmosphere

very good. There is a large bar, a podium, some sofas,

table football ...The average price is not too expensive

and it is worth going there.

The bus for going to the discos is the number 1, you

can take it in Plaça Espanya Sq. during all day, but at

night you can take “The Night Bus”. It costs 1'50 Euros

all night. You can also go by foot.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Mallorca is an interesting island for sports activities.

Furthermore, the weather is good for doing sports.

In Palma you can do many activities:

-Run along the Passeig Marítim: you can go jogging by

the beach until el Molinar, and there you can drink a beer or

a refreshment and then you can return to your hotel very

happily.

-Cycling: you can go to Arenal and ride a bike along the

promenade..

-Swimming: the best swimming pool is Son Hugo. It's next

to the train rails and

if you want to swim

in the sea , you can

go to Cala Major.

Outside Palma:

-scuba diving: Son Verí is a rocky shore.It has the most

biodiversity.

-Hiking: if you like mountains, you can go to Masanella,

Sa foradada or sa Coa Negra. These mountains are the

most famous mountains because the landscapes are

very beautiful.

-Skateboarding: if you like skateboarding do not hesitate, go

to Son Moix skatepark, it's a professional skatepark and if

you like skating on flat surfaces you ca go to Plaza del

Tubo.This place is where the best skaters gather in Palma.

Other interesting places for skating are: Sa faxina and Sa

Riera in Palma, Inca, Alaró skatepark and Alcudia skatepark.

Culture

THE OLD PART OF PALMA DE MALLORCA

The historical center, with medieval narrow streets is the

most interesting part of the city for visitors, where they can

find most of the monuments of Palma.

If you want to get to the old of Palma you can catch the line 2

bus from Plaça Espanya Sq. The bus costs 1,50€. But I think

walking is better than taking a bus.

You can get a map at the turist information office.

HOW TO GO TO THE OLD QUARTER:

You have to follow these steps:

1)Go to the main square of Plaça Espanya first.

2)Then you must go to Sant Miquel Street. until you

get to Plaça Major Square.

3)From there, take Colon Street.

4)At the end, you will find the city town-hall.

From there, you have many options

to go to different places, like L'Almudaina,

the Cathedral or El Consolat de Mar.

The Cathedral:

The Cathedral is gothic. It is 121 meters long, 55

meters wide,

44 meters tall.

This building

was finished in

1601.

L'Almudaina:

The royal palace of L'Almudaina is opposite the Cathedral.

It was built by the romans in 1281.

-Visiting hours:

Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 am to 20:00 pm

Price of guided tour: 15€

Bellver Castle

Bellver Castle is a gothic castle and it's one of the few

circular castles in Europe.

It was built in the 14th century by king James II of Mallorca.

It has four towers attached to a circular complex and

surrounded by a wall.

Now it's a museum, but before it used to be a military prison

and the home for kings like James II.

It's open all day and the entrance costs 2.50€, 1 € for

students and 2€ for groups.

On Sundays and public holidays it's free for everyone, but

the exhibition rooms and museum are closed.

You can go to the castle by:

-Bus line 50 (red bus). Bus stop: Bellver Castle

- Bus lines 3 and 20. Bus line 46 (via El Terreno)

- Bus stop: Plaça Gomila Sq. Walk along Bellver Street and

climb up the stairs.

-Bus stop: Joan Miró Street, 16. Walk along Camilo José

Cela Street and through the forest.

- Bus stop: Joan Miró Street, 16. Walk for 2.5 Km. along

Camilo José Cela Street.

THE CAVES

They are underground galleries and halls with calcareus

deposits in the forms of stalactites and stalacmites which

have beautiful shapes. Some of these caves include lakes,

that you can cross by a boat, and there you can listen to

some concerts and see light shows.

The most visited caves are:

– In Palma: Caves of

GÉNOVA.

– Outside Palma caves

of:

HAMS near Porto

Cristo.

ARTÀ situated on the coast of Capdepera in the

Cap Vermell.

DRAC in Porto Cristo (Manacor).

CAMPANET in the Serra de Tramuntana, near the

village of Campanet.

The caves of Drac contain

the world's largest

underground lake.
