mROADM
The MROADM/1P800-C is a single-slot plug-in unit that can be combined with any of the Transponders or MuxPonders in the TM-series. It can be tuned to drop any DWDM channel without affecting adjacent traffic and additional channels can be added to the drop port asymmetrically around the first channel, up to a total of e ight, 100GHz spaced channels.
The MROADM/1P800-C is to be seen as a tunable add/drop filter that can be tuned to any wavelength and that can be expanded to drop up to eight channels. This gives a network operator the ability to adapt to changes in traffic and capacity demands without re-arranging fixed Add/drop filters or using a bulky and expens ive Mux/DeMux conf igurat ion.
A network with a number of MROADM/1P800-C nodes requires less network planning and gives a more futu re-pro of ne twork. In addition, this creates the “future-proof OADM” where node add/drop capacity expansion via the µROADM avoids the use of maintenance windows to open the main optical path to insert new fixed filters. This node also provides a constant throughput loss, removing the impact on the pass through

The figure shows how two MROADM/1P800-C units are placed back-to-back to give an east-west add/drop configuration. If a single wavelength add/drop node is required, the Transponders can be connected directly to the A/D-port of the MROADM/1P800-C. In this special case, a Transponder with tuneable laser would give a totally flexible node that can be tuned to any channel in the DWDM spectrum.
If multiple channels are to be dropped, fixed AD-filters can be added as shown in the figure. Additional AD-filters are stacked together with Transponder or MuxPonder units as the number of channels increase.
The 1-port mROADM unit (MROADM/1P800-C) is a plug-in unit in the TM-series platform, providing a cost-effective and compact dynamic add/drop functionality for bus or ring networks. The unit is based on a Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) with an add/drop port that can be expanded up to a 800GHz band.

The MROADM/1P800-C can also be used to branch out a portion of the wavelength channels to another location. As an example, extra channels can be diverted to a customer site (D) that requires additional capacity during a period of time. After completion the ROADM is set back to pass-through and all channels can be used in the network between node (A) and (C).
