WHAT DOES TK LOOK LIKE?
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Traditional Kindergarten Students are exposed to content
standards Mastery of content standards is
expected
Program follows a modified curriculum that meets the academic and social emotional needs of young children
Program follows a curriculum dictated by a pacing guide
Students have more time to master content standards
Mastery of standards is supported and reinforced
Program is student centered, driven by individual student needs to ensure students develop individual assets
Program is teacher directed, driven by expectations to master content standards as well as differentiation for individual needs
Social emotional development is emphasized in order to help students develop prosocial skills
Positive discipline strategies are used to help students stay on task
