Dave: They’reusuallylikethat,theskepticcommunitywhereit’slikeeverythingisscience-based.Ifyouignoresixofseventypesofevidencethenit’sevidence-based,thatsortofthing.Still,it’saninteresting…Whatdoyousaywhensomeonesays,“Youknow,thiscomesinandgoesoutsofastthatit’sirrelevanttoourbody.It’sadifferentstandard.”
Walter: Well…IuhItotallyunderstandthatbecausethat’showIusedtothink.IusedtobeguiltyofthatexactsamethoughtuntiltheCDCstartlookingattheseothercompounds.Beforethat,allthatwasinthepublishedmedicalliteratureforlookingatbodyburdenedoftoxiccompoundswasallthepersistence,DDT,PCBs;that’salltheyhad.MaybeIprobablywasn’ttheonlyonethathadthismisconceptionbutwhentheCDCstartdoingtheseongoingyearafteryearstudiesforthousandsandthousandsofUSresidents,andthey’refindinglevelsofbisphenolAandatleastsixdifferentphthalatesorplasticizersandScotchgardandTeflonchemicalsandorganophosphatepesticidesthatwerefirstdevelopedinthe1930sforwarfarenervegas.We’refindingallofthesenon-persistentthingsthatleavethebodyquicklyineverybody,thatmademestartandtakenotice.
Ontopofthat,Dave,thereishowIspentmydayisreviewingpublishedmedicalandscientificreportsthatarenowonPubMedorMEDLINE,NationalLibraryofMedicinefromtheNationalInstitutesofHealth.It’savailabletoeverybodyonline.Therearewonderfulreportsthere.Now,withBPA,alotofthemarefrominfertilityclinicsorotherindividuals,otherdocsworkingwithvariousendocrinedisorders.IjustreviewedanarticleonBPAandcausinginwomenwhohadfetusesthatweredevelopmentallydelayed.Thesefetuses,theywerepregnant,hadchromosomaldifferencesinthem,abnormalities.

YouknowaswellasIthat…WhenIstartedpractice,Iactuallydeliveredbabies;didhomedeliveryandbabies.Backthen,Idon’trememberknowingafamilythathaveaspecialneedskid.
Dave: I’veonlydonehomedeliverytwobabiesbutthey’reokay.Theywouldbemine.
Walter: Now,it’smorecommonthannothavespecialneedskids.Thisstudywaslookingatthesemomswhoarepregnantwithkidsthatweregoingtobespecialneedskids.Hereiswhatwasreallyinteresting.TheylookedattheBPAlevelsinthewomenwhohavethesedevelopmentaldisabilitiesinthekidsordevelopmentaldifferencesversusmomsthatdidn’t,thathavenormaldevelopingfetuses.TheylookedatthetypesofBPA.OnceBPAismetabolizedbytheliver,itbecomesnontoxic.Itdoesn’tcausedamagetothefetus.Thewomenwiththekids,thefetusesthathaddevelopmentaldisorder,theycouldn’tproperlyclearBPA.

Walter: Itdoesbothsulfurtransferasewhichisyouneedsulfurandyouneedthetransferaseinsizebutthenitalsodoesglucuronosyltransferasecreatingtheglucuronidewhichistheprimaryone.Womenthatcan’tmakethatjump,they’retheonesthatgettheproblem.Itwasveryinterestingarticle.Yourmainquestionwastheseotherpeoplearen'tlookingatwhattheCDCsaysthatbutit’sinallofusinhighlevelseverydayandthatthey’reactuallymeasuringlevelsinpeopleandshowingassociationwithproblems.Youputtwoandtwotogetherandit’s…duh.
