Ashes to Go at Burtonsville Park and Ride Thank you J.J. Boulin, Karen Facen, Charlene Blaine, and Vincent Bernhard for being our representatives on such a cold Ash Wednesday morning.

ASHES TO GO 2015

2

Engaging the world with

our enduring faith is a

cornerstone of the Dio-

cese of Washington.

As such, the diocese had

stations where those in

the world could get ash-

es on Ash Wednesday.

We participated with a

lay group who lived out

their baptismal ministry

by taking ashes to the

Burtonsville Park and

Ride. Thank you.

TRANSFIGURATION'S POLICY ON ALCOHOL

What is our policy at Transfiguration on alcohol?

The use of alcohol (limited to beer and wine) on premises is

prohibited during events sponsored by outside groups and

non-parishioners, and during events conducted for chil-

dren. The use of alcohol is permitted in moderation only

for wedding receptions and for events of parishioners. Al-

coholic beverages must be consumed only in the parish

hall, never outside the building. Whenever alcoholic bever-

ages are available, non-alcoholic beverages must be equally

available and encouraged. A paid sexton/security guard

will be on the premises whenever alcoholic beverages are

available. When signing the parish hall agreement, the host

for the event (parishioner or wedding party representative)

pledges to be responsible for the alcoholic beverage con-

sumption of all guests and is to ensure that moderation is

observed and alcoholic beverages are not served to or con-

sumed by minors.

In the wake of the tragedy and loss of life in the Diocese of Mary-

land, and with our own wine tasting events, it becomes incum-

bent upon us to know what the church at large thinks, its sugges-

tions for parish policies, and our own policy. So, in the pages be-

fore and after, you will find information you might want to know

about the Episcopal Church, Transfiguration, and alcohol.

COME JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST!

A note from Ladi,

Vincent, The Rev. David Wolf and myself invite you to attend this year’s Next Step Breakfast on

Wednesday, March 4 at the National Press Club. Samaritan Ministry’s Next Step Program provides assistance

to people who are homeless and others in need while promoting change, dignity and self-reliance. Program

participants define goals for how they want their lives to change, and then set and take manageable next steps

toward those goals in partnership with a Samaritan Ministry mentor.

The breakfast is designed to provide a “snapshot” of the transformative work of the Next Step program as

well as inspiration through personal testimonies and a short video. A complimentary breakfast is served, and

guests will be invited to make a financial contribution.

We are hosting tables, and would be delighted to have you join us. For more information or to RSVP,

please look for us at Sunday morning coffee or contact one of us as follows:

Connecting diverse people.

Serving one Lord.

The Knit Purl group will be raffling off a

handmade afghan during lent.

The goal is to raise $500.00 to be donated to the Heifer

foundation. The money will be used to provide a person in a

third world country with a Knitting basket, which includes

a llama, an alpaca, a sheep and an Angora rabbit. Your gift

for knitters also ensures families are instructed on how to

properly feed and care for the animals.

Each Knitter's Gift Basket:

• Nourishes families with milk from the llama and sheep

• Keeps families warm with wool that can be made into sweaters and scarves

Provides a source of income from the sale of clothing and blankets made from the wool

These four animals included in the knitting basket provide families with ample wool for

warmth, as well as a source of income. Your donation of a Knitter's Gift Basket represents an

opportunity for a better life.

Tickets are $5.00 apiece 5 for $25.
