The location for international leadersNorthern France is home to several dozen international operators in the automotive and rail sector. With its leading position in these markets at global level, it represents a real driving force for economic and techno-logical development for the entire area.

A dense and well-structured economic fabric With over 300 automotive and rail companies and 60,000 profes-sionals, Transalley sits at the heart of a unique pool of skills and industrial resources, organised by activity, facilitating networking and partnerships. The SMEs in the sector are particularly dynamic, actively participating in initiatives, which enables them to innovate and develop. Regional industrial activities such as mechanics, plas-tics and textiles further enhance the competitiveness of the transport and mobility cluster.

A centre of innovation Hosting numerous groups of engineers and scientists, Transalley nur-tures innovative development in all mobility sectors. Its innovation capacities have led to the creation of I-Trans, a global inland transport competitiveness cluster.Start-ups, research teams, research partnership projects, incubation: innovation is now supported at all levels, and is rapidly gaining in strength through contact with a dense and diversified industrial fabric.

At the heart of regulatory changeAs a privileged site for businesses, Transalley works alongside major private and institutional actors, giving it the status of decision-making centre in the mobility sector, at both national and international level.■ The European Railway Agency (ERA) works to establish technical standards and international signalling codes, in the interests of rail safety.■ The Railway Certification Agency (CERTIFER) brings together over 400 experts. It assesses and controls urban and rail projects to ensure their interoperability, safety and availability, both nationally and inter-nationally.■ The Établissement Public de Sécurité Ferroviaire (EPSF) is the French authority on rail safety, responsible for audits, inspections, and autho-risations. ■ The Centre d’Essais Ferroviaire (CEF) in Valenciennes is the only site in France able to test all types of railway rolling stock for the purposes of accreditation.

Transalley’s locality, in the vicinity of Valenciennes, in northern France, is home to many of the key players in the European automotive and rail industries.Powerful, well balanced and structured, this world-class cluster offers development opportunities for all actors in the mobility sector, at local, national and international levels.
