    Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment

The proposed activity is a part of public sectordevelopment Programme. This R&D project is associatedwith the application of recent advance in analyticalinstrumentation and techniques to the problems of marineenvironment and health of coastal marine ecosystem. The

project activities have great bearing on the sustainabledevelopment of marine resources, marine environment, marine pollution and its impact on marine resources andmaritime industry.

The healthy coastal ecosystem depends on the optimumenvironmental condition. The aquatic environment is acomplex eco-system consisting of multiple water qualityvariables, each individual water quality parameter isimportant, but it is the aggregate and interrelationship ofall the parameters that influence on the ocean productivity.

Scope and Objectives of the Workshop

The objective of the workshop is to expose the participantswith state of the art techniques use in wastewater/seawaterquality

monitoring & assessment together with field/boatexercise and sampling techniques.

This training course will enhance the participantindigenous capability to assess the impact of humanactivities on the coastal environment and fisheriesresources.

National Institute of Oceanography under theMinistry of Science and Technology (MoST),Government of Pakistan is conductingmultidisciplinary oceanographic research since 1981and contributing towards national economic growth

    and development.

The ocean is a natural gift to mankind a hugetreasure, Pakistan is one of the countries which are

bestowed by the Almighty with the bounties of theocean. Ocean is a source of present and future foodsupply. Safe, healthy and productive seas andoceans are vital to human well-being, economicsecurity and sustainable development. There are anumber of environmental issues in the coastal zoneof Pakistan such as disposal of domestic wastes anduntreated industrial effluent that could be sources of

deterioration of coastal environmental, depletion ofmarine resources, human health risks and loss of bio-diversity.

The objective of this course is to introduce watermonitoring and sampling techniques, BestManagement Practices and laboratory methodsrelated to wastewater/seawater quality assessment. The workshop will be spread over different sessionscovering wastewater/seawater quality and coastal

pollution. The lectures and lab practices will begiven by experts and invited speakers and sampling

techniques will be demonstrated on boat trip.

Anyone who is interested in wastewater/seawaterquality assessment and monitoring. There are no

prerequisites wastewater/seawater quality skills orknowledge required. Those employed or studying inwater sciences or hydrology or environmentalstudies or ecological assessments or Marineresearcher & Scientists or Marine and coastalManagers would be greatly benefit by participatingin this course.
