Attendees will learn how secondary trauma impacts both their professional and personal lives. Attendees will also learn about various self-care activities that can be utilized at an individual level as well as at an organizational level. In this workshop, we will identify the difference between contracts and policies, give examples of what goes into contracts and policies, and apply the information to new or current contracts and policies. An Introduction to the Environment Rating Scales This training is for center-based programs and family child care providers and offers an overview of the Environment Rating Scales. The Environment Rating Scales are user-friendly assessment tools that measure the quality of the learning environment for infants through school-age children. Child Development, Health, and Safety Basics This training will provide participants an overview of child development, health, and safety issues for children birth through early school-age. Emphasis will be on understanding patterns of development, developmental domains, and the role of nutrition in development. In addition, health and safety issues will address supporting the growth of healthy children – from the basics such as handwashing to more in-depth practices surrounding healthy procedures and disease prevention. Participants will learn more about emergency planning/preparedness and first aid as well as identify tips for maintaining safe indoor/outdoor environments. Communication to Create Caring and Collaborative Relationships in Early Care and Education Building caring and collaborative relationships in early care and education will be the basis of discussion. Connecting Food Into Curriculum for Young Children Learn to integrate gardening into your classroom routines, activities, and curriculum. This hands-on training will walk you through the process of adding a garden to your site from seed to harvest. Are you an experienced gardener but not sure how to engage children in the process? No problem! Participants will walk away with ideas on how to make gardening child-friendly and fun while also increasing family engagement. Fundamentals of Child Assessment Participants will be introduced to the essentials and importance of conducting child assessments in early childhood programs. Through discussion and group activities, practitioners will learn the different types of assessments, why assessments are needed, and how assessments are used to plan for children’s learning. Child care practitioners are important role models for the children in their care. The phrase “actions speak louder than words” is especially true for children

since they watch and imitate what adults are doing. Being a healthy role model not only is important for the children but enables the care providers to have

the energy and good health to meet the demands of the job. This lesson explores key concepts and actions for modeling healthy behaviors for children.

How to Identify and Support Characteristics of Autism in Your Classroom Many children are diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) after age 4, though autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age 2. We'll review characteristics of ASD and discuss the challenges that can occur in the preschool classroom. Participants will learn strategies to implement in the classroom that help with: attention/sensory, communication, social, rigidity or repetitive behaviors, and cognitive/learning. By getting stronger and understanding safe and effective form when exercising, you can improve the effectiveness of your body and have more energy throughout your day. Learn ways to connect your mind and body and let go of tension and stress in your neck, back, shoulders, and body with gentle yoga and stretch movements. No Pressure Food Tasting for Young Children In this hands-on training, providers will learn how and why to include tastings of new and familiar foods into their classroom curriculum. Participants will help make a child friendly kale salad, as well as learn the ins and outs of encouraging no pressure tastings. PITC Module 3: Learning and Development This session explores brain development, early learning and language development, and appropriate curriculum planning for infants and toddlers.
