Brilliant Suspension Bridge ClosureCanadian Paci c has been working with the RDCK

o permit the removal of metal-impacted soils withinhe RDCK’s lands near the historic Brilliant Suspension

Bridge and Observation Deck. Te impacted soils weredenti ed in this area and appear to be residual from a his-oric derailment that occurred nearby in the mid-1970s.

Te soils have been tested and are non-hazardous. Teywill be excavated and removed to the local RDCK land ll.Te work is being carried out by an experienced environ-mental remedial contractor, Quantum Remediation, andsupervised by local Nelson staff from the environmentalconsultant SNC-Lavalin Environment & Water.

Te work is expected to occur within a three-weekperiod starting the end of April 2015. Beginning Monday,April 27 during active construction, access to the historicBrilliant Suspension Bridge, the nearby Brilliant Road,and the Observation Deck will be closed. Access to thehistoric Brilliant Suspension Bridge and a portion of theBrilliant Road will be reopened outside of regular con-struction hours.
