CLIMATE  Climate

While it is hot in the summer, Las Vegas has one of the best climates in the United States. Our summer heat is easier to deal with than the summer heat in most other places including parts of the Midwest, east and south. Las Vegas enjoys an average of 289 days of sunshine per year. Since this is a 'night-time', 24-hour city, the warm, dry summer nights are outstanding for visitors and locals.

ABOUT THE VEGAS

Las Vegas  is the most populous city in Nevada, United States, the seat of Clark County, and an internationally renowned major resort city forgambling, shopping and fine dining. Las Vegas, which bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of casino resorts and associated entertainment. A growing retirement and family city, it is the 28th most populous city in the United States with an estimated population by the U.S. Census Bureau of 583,756 as of 2010. The 2010 population estimate of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 1,951,269.

TOURISM

The iconic Las Vegas Sign.

The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels. The most famous hotel casinos are located on Las Vegas Boulevard on the portion of that road known as the Las Vegas Strip.

These larger casinos are located outside of the city. Many of these hotels are massive, providing thousands of rooms, with their large adjoining casino areas.

There are many

hotel casinos in the

city's downtown

area as well, which

was the focal point

of the city's gaming

industry in its early

days. Several large

hotels and casinos

are also located

somewhat off the

Strip, as well as in

the county around

the city.

ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE LAS VEGAS?

Unspeakable

what happens in vegas stays in vegas, baby!

GAMBLERS?

Another sort of Vegas betting experts are the gaming table players, although in general these players are usually called gamblers, not betting experts, in spite of other connecting factors.

THE BELLAGIO FOUNTAINS.  there's only one worth

going to: the Bellagio fountains. Every half-hour between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and every 15 minutes from then 'til midnight, an 8.5-acre lake in the middle of the desert explodes with 1,214 spritzers shooting water up to 460 feet in the air — the water rockets and dances, perfectly choreographed to Frank Sinatra or Gene Kelly or "One Singular Sensation" from A Chorus Line. And yet, for some reason, it doesn't feel all that gay, which is quite a feat.

LIBERACE MUSEUM, GUN STORE AND MORE!

If you've still got time to kill, there are lots of other things you can do in Vegas. You can hit the Liberace Museum; the small, overpriced, but legit Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio; and the weird zoo exhibits of tigers and dolphins at the Mirage. You can get Thai food at Lotus of Siam at the strip mall on East Sahara Avenue or, better, the Mexican restaurant in the same mall that serves one dish: a sublime goat taco.
