Question No. 1

Describe the probable reasons for the setting up of the TTTI in India. Describe the direct and indirect benefits accruing to TKM by running the TTTI. What, according to you, are the short-term and long-term benefits to the company?

Answer No. 1

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited (TKM) had set up a technical training school called

Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI). The purpose of this institute is to offer an opportunity to

acquire special skills of 'Monozukuri' (skilled manufacturing), for those students who have the talent

but cannot go for higher education due to economic reasons, a company statement said.

TMC projected the setting up of this institute as a corporate social responsibility initiative

that was aimed at benefiting a disadvantaged session of Indian society by increasing their

employability.

Long-term objective was to bring betterment in the Indian society by cultivating the power of

the nation’s youth. The trainees will have a vast exposure of Toyota Production System and Toyota

Question No. 2

The TTTI trainees were not under any compulsion to join the company (TKM) once they had completed the training program. What are the possible advantage(s) and disadvantage(s) of such a policy?

Answer No. 2

Advantage

The institute was established for the contribution to the betterment of society, and to cultivate

the power of the nation’s youth. They were able to fulfill their Corporate Social

Responsibility.

People who couldn’t study any further then Middle School will get a platform where they can

learn and enhance their skills so they can work for the betterment of the society.

Disadvantage

They will lose a capable human resource; the amount spending on the human capital is not

being utilized. The first thing that is observed while giving training is whether the person

whom the training is being given will give back any profit to the company.

Even if they are not joining the company, they will increase the good-will by suggesting

others and where-ever they will go, they will know how to paint, weld, and assemble and all

the mechanical tasks. It will help the company in-directly and better trainees can join the

institute.

of Insurance companies, they are providing a service to customers and they may hire sales-persons

who are not enough educated but good in convincing customers to buy their service. Such employees

can be given a chance by providing them trainings and development of their skills on regular basis.

Companies can conduct training on weekly basis where employees can discuss their problems and

mentors or trainers can guide them with solutions.

Conducting such trainings or establishes such institutes will help the society’s betterment.

Many needy people who can’t pursue their study neither getting good jobs can avail this opportunity.
