Charles B. The following seven alumni are being inducted into the Hall of Fame for

their impressive accomplishments. As you will read, the group includes alumni from diverse backgrounds including the arts, community activism, business, education, emtertainment, government, medicine and the military.

The Alumni Association will be hold-ing a luncheon this spring (although it may be postponed due to the Coronavirus) to honor these outstanding alumni along with our six Golden Generals (see page 2).

Charles B. Elder, Sr. ‘45Korean War Prisoner of War.  Fought in the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge (Sept-Oct 1951) until his unit was captured by the North Ko-reans.  They were made to march for 25-30 days to the prison camp.  His hip was wound-ed in battle, and when he became unable to walk, rode on an ox cart.  He was operated on in a roadside hut with kitchen utensils and no anesthesia.  His wound grew fetid and filled with maggots.  Many died during the march; he was the only one on the cart to survive.  Camp was brutally cold and the work detail very strenuous.  After attempting escape, he spent time in solitary confinement.  He was

Mary Lou Simms McAllister ‘46Volunteer and Community Activist recog-nized for her dedication and service to the Town of St. Michaels, Maryland. A found-er of Christmas in St. Michaels, which since 1987 has raised $1.4 million, establishing a local daycare and a community center as well as providing much needed support to countless community non-profits. Mary Lou chaired the committee that raised the funds to build a community pool and con-tinues to work to ensure that everyone has access. She also chairs an after school aca-demic program for grades 1 through 8. She has served on numerous working Boards including the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, the Academy Art Museum, and the local CASA, to name a few.

working at many prominent hospitals around the country. He earned an MA in Creative Writing/Playwriting from Boston University and later was the first deaf stu-dent to earn an MFA in theatre from Tow-son University. He was an Associate Artist for ten years at Center Stage in Baltimore. Today, Willy is the most widely produced, living deaf playwright with over 20 plays and nearly as many awards and nomina-tions to his credit. He has taught at Gallau-det University for nearly 30 years, where he is a full professor of the Theatre and Dance program. In addition to being a photogra-pher, playwright and scholar, he is also an actor, director, poet, and novelist.

Derek Waters ‘98Actor, writer, director, producer, creator. Best known as executive producer, direc-tor, and host of the Comedy Central hit series ’Drunk History’, now in its seventh season (2020). When asked about his days at Towson High Waters writes “Mr. Stange*  was an inspiration to me. He brought history to life for me through his storytelling and humor, my hope was that I could do that for other people. If I could make the audience laugh, then maybe I could get them to pay attention to these incredible people and moments in his-tory.” To date, Waters has received seven Emmy nominations for producing and directing the show.

his gene mutation and genetics research, has been recognized across the globe and has led to advances in understanding and treating a once fatal disease. In 2006 it was written “When a physician receives two standing ovations from a crowd of 1100, many of whom are his professional peers, he surely deserves the Outstanding Physi-cians Award” which was presented at the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s International Conference. In 2018 he re-ceived the Legacy of Life Award, as its Sci-entific Honoree, from the Intermountain Research and Medial Foundation.

Sean Stackley ‘75High Ranking Naval Officer. Was ap-pointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy - Research, Development and Acqui-sition ASN (RDA) by President GW Bush in 2008 and was retained by Pres-ident Obama through 2017. In 2017 he served as Acting Secretary of the Navy after President Trump was elected. From 2005-2008 he served as a professional staff member of the Senate Armed Ser-vices Committee. Sean has received nu-merous Military Awards and Achieve-ment Medals throughout his naval career. He graduated with distinction from the United State Naval Academy in 1979, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds the degrees of Ocean Engineer and Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering from the Mas-sachusetts Institute of Technology and is a certified professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Willy Conley ‘76Holds a BS in Biomedical Photographic Communications from the Rochester In-stitute of Technology, and became the first deaf Registered Biological Photographer,

Long-time executive with New Balance holding the positions of President, Chief Operation Officer and President Emeri-tus/Advisor, over his 29-year career. He has served/serves as Chairman of Board and Honorary President of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods In-dustry, an association that represents its members to such organizations as the In-ternational Olympic Committee, FIFA and the World Trade Organization. He also serves as Chairman of the United States Footwear Manufacturers Associ-ation, an organization which deals with government footwear procurement and USA tariff issues. John also serves on lo-cal boards, including Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston.

C. Greg Elliott ‘65Pulmonologist, Physician Scientist, Chairman of Medicine, and Medical Di-rector of the Pulmonary Hypertension Center at Intermountain Medical Cen-ter, Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1983 this center was established by Dr. Elliott as one of a few select centers identified by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the diagnosis and treatment of pa-tients with pulmonary hypertension. His ground-breaking research, specifically

Charles L. Amos ’49 (Hall of Fame) and his son Brook T. Amos ’77 on their re-cently published book ‘Iron Horses & Paintbrushes: My Life as a Railroad Man & Artist’ a combined memoir and art book featuring many of Charles’ works of art. Marie True Evans ‘58 on her recently pub-lished book ‘Guinevere’s Child’, an historical biography based on a true story. ‘Guinevere’s Child’ is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Towson High for being one of Newsweek’s Top 500 STEM High Schools. Towson was only one of two Baltimore County schools to make the list for being one of the best schools for science, technology, engineering and mathematics at number 310. (Eastern Tech-nical High School was number 240.)

The Towson High VEX Robotics Club for winning the Maryland State Champion-ship Tournament this past March.

Towson High’s One Love Club for being one of four Baltimore Country schools to be cer-tified as One Love Champions for promoting healthy relationship education. The One Love Foundation was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a senior at the University of Virginia, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. They founded One Love to educate and empower young people about the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and to recognize the signs of an abusive relationship.

He had a distin-guished and dual career both as a For-eign Service officer with the U.S. State Department and as a correspondent and bureau chief with Time Magazine. Throughout his career, he travelled ex-tensively, covered many world events and met over 50 world leaders.

Thomas H. Jessop ‘54 *April 10, 1936 – May 14, 2018Towson High Alumni Hall of FameAfter graduating from Towson High and the University of Maryland, Tom spent the next 30 years with Kraft Foods, holding numerous executive positions and retiring as a corporate Vice President.
