LIMITATIONS OF THESE DATA

The findings contained in the next four pages result from a survey of Bourne residents conducted in Spring/Summer 2001 (“Household Survey”). One in every 51 Bourne households was surveyed. While researchers made every attempt to survey a random sample of residents, there is no guarantee that these findings are representative of all Bourne residents. Thus, the reader should consider these data to be indicators of the human condition in Bourne.

** RESIDENT SURVEY RESULTS ** FOR

BOURNE, MASSACHUSETTS

RESIDENT SURVEY RESPONSES:

Of the Bourne households randomly selected for participation in The Human Condition 2001 Household Survey, 147 completed and returned the survey questionnaire. This number represents 6% of the total number of surveys collected across Barnstable County. A detailed Socio-Demographic Profile of the 147 Bourne households sampled is provided in Appendix 2.C. The following two sections summarize the perspectives of these Bourne households concerning important social issues, potential problem areas, and barriers to access to needed human services.

RESIDENT PERSPECTIVES:

Household-Level Issues:

Bourne respondents included on their list of problems (“household issues”) eight of twelve of the issues from the County’s Top Twelve Household Issues list, but in a somewhat different rank order. Issues of having time for recreation and time with spouse/partner appear to be of a higher priority in Bourne than across the County as a whole.
