From theSupervisor’sOffice

From the Assessor

From the SupervisorWell, 2016 is pretty much

in the books. The town has gone through a few changes, but nothing too major.

As of Nov. 28, Andy Busa will be the new highway superintendent; he has agreed to start a month early.

In your tax bills, there was a 0-percent increase from the town, due mostly to the growth in housing that we have had. The county budget is not done yet, as I am

writing this, but it looks like a 1.9-percent increase at the county for the tax rate.

This year brought some sad news with the passing of Bill Cole and Sonny Centner. As we reflect on 2016, let us all be joyful we live in a great town and a great county.

We at the town board hope 2016 was a healthy and

prosperous year for you and your families.

For all new homeowners, including those with new construction, there has been a significant change in the NYS STAR Program.

Beginning with the 2016 school year, all new STAR applicants will be enrolled in the STAR Check Program.

This new program gives homeowners a STAR credit in the form of a check each year rather than an exemption off the school tax bill. (The dollar

value will be the same as the exemption.)

To apply for the STAR Check Program, visit www.

tax.ny.gov, or you can call 518-457-2036. Only new homeowners need to apply.

If you already have a STAR Exemption, you do not need to do anything; you will continue to receive an

exemption each year. If you have any questions, please call our office at 315-687- 7222.

Stay Safe this Holiday and Winter SeasonFrom the Fire Inspector

Season Prompts Reminder to Pay Attention to Fire Safety

Bill PindleIt’s that time of year when

risks of fire increase. The Office of the Fire Inspector offers the following tips for having a safe and healthy holiday and winter

season:1. Refrain from using electric

space heaters that are greater than 1500 watts.

2. Check your smoke andcarbon monoxide detectors to see that they work properly; 50 percent of these detectors are installed in the home but are inoperative.

3. If you are using a woodburning stove, clean the chimney often. Burn only well-seasoned wood. Feel free to call our offices for a free safety inspection.

4. Have a safe, planned andpracticed escape route from your home in the event of a house fire.

5. Be sure not to overloadyour electrical circuits, especially during the holiday season.

For more information, call Fire Inspector Bill Pindle at 315.633.9333.
