Concerns and Opportunities

YOU ALL LOVE YOUR TOWN

you all want success for town and want quality but all define different methods - process - priorities to get there…

RFMS: ROB FRANKE MEDIATION SOLUTIONSTOWN OF PROSPER | H&F CONSULTING, INC. 10

COUNCIL OBSERVATIONS…

‘business’ of town versus moving at a government pace

individual effectiveness versus group effectiveness

policy governance versus task management

professional and competitive council

in versus out - decision-making vs decision-made

individual priorities and passions

information is power - who knows and who doesn’t and when

hold to old town values versus demands for new and shiny

how much does quality cost

high expectations - for town and staff

trust is growing but not deep and personal

WHY DO WE DO THIS?

for free….

12

I would just shoot you if I had time to clean up the

mess.

Politics is war carried out without

bloodshed, while war is politics carried out

with bloodshed.

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble,

finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong

remedies.”

GROUND RULES1. Recognize that staff live the work – council members have a life!

2. I am a facilitator - mediator - peacemaker.

Facilitator and Mediator: neutral – promote discussion – offer ideas- rephrase – shut down speeches – keep control of time.

Peacemaker – love conflict and promote collaboration – call-out behaviors.

I never make the decision and rarely live with the consequences.

3. I am not a double spy - confidential.

4. I can say what you may not want to say and you know what I don’t. 26
