Area Profile
Town of Herndon
The Town of Herndon is one of Fairfax County’s most dynamic office, retail and hotel centers. Commercial development is focused along Elden Street, Herndon Parkway, Spring Street and Worldgate Drive. Office space totals more than 5.7 million square feet and runs the gamut from small condominiums to the high-rise structures along the Dulles Toll and Access Roads (Route 267).
Additionally, nearly 1.2 million square feet of industrial/flex space is present, as is almost 1.4 million square feet of retail development. Due to its proximity to Washington Dulles Inter-national Airport, the submarket has 10 hotels with more than 1,560 rooms.
An independent jurisdiction, the Town of Hern-don is home to nearly 23,000 residents and yet still maintains its small-town charm with parks, a town green, recreation center, library and other community assets. Herndon’s historic downtown includes numerous restaurants and shops and is the venue for fairs and festivals throughout the year.
Major employers in Herndon include Boeing, the Air Line Pilots Association, ITT Exelis, Sprint, Northwest Federal Credit Union, Parsons Brinckerhoff, SAVVIS Communications and the federal gov-ernment. In 2011, Money magazine named Herndon one of the “100 Best Places to Live” in the U.S.
