Dear friends,

Worthington member Colby Srsic and I just returned from the “NEXT Church” national conference in Chicago. NEXT Church is a network of Presbyterians who are motivated to help our churches—many of them long-standing, traditional churches like ours—adapt to a new time and new challenges. See the 3-minute video at http://nextchurch.net/about-next/#.VQrPio7F-Ps to get an idea about NEXT Church. While no one can say whether this group will have the answer, I appreciate their effort and courage: their willingness to acknowledge how the world is changing and their determination to put their energy not in wringing their hands, but in faithfully seeking to discover how the New Creation begun on Easter Sunday is unfolding now. The world surrounding American churches is changing. The digital revolution, changing the way we communicate, is considered by many to be as dramatic and far-reaching a development as the invention of the printing press. The U.S. Census Bureau is predicting that within just a few decades, there will be no racial majority in America. And you probably know from your own neighborhood or workplace that fewer and fewer people consider organized religion to be an important (or even respectable) part of life. In light of these and other changes, it is tempting to wring our hands. It is also tempting to keep doing things the way we’ve always done them, crossing our fingers that what was once a very effective way to “go and make disciples,” will still remain effective. I appreciate the people of NEXT Church for banding together to resist those temptations and instead, put their trust in our God, our help in ages past and our hope for years to come. It is important for us to link with those who remember and continue to trust the words of Isaiah: I am about to do a new thing / now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? / I will make a way in the wilderness / and rivers in the desert. If it feels like a wilderness time, then we look to the One who makes a way for us in the wilderness. What are the ways you see the world—your world or the world around us—changing? Bring those observations with you when you come to worship this Easter Sunday, because Easter is the day we celebrate the launch of the New Creation: that is, the resurrection of Jesus is the first and defining sign that God is in the midst of redeeming our world. And the good news that Jesus brought

continues to be the light by which we see our way to the future God has in store for us.

May God bless your Easter Alleluias,

Julia Wharff Piermont

ITEMS NEEDED FOR WORTHY CAUSE

WPC 10th grader Madeline Owen is collecting small household, cleaning, and art supplies to assist summer camps in Ohio that accept all youth, regardless of their ability to pay, and camps that struggle to meet supply needs. She will welcome items on Sunday, April 19, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Madeline founded the non-profit Summer Camp Youth Project (SCYP) in 2014 based on the positive impact Pleasant Hill Outdoor Camp & Christian Center had on her as a young child. She is working hard to collect enough supplies to distribute to Ohio camps by June 2015. Any of the following donations would be greatly appreciated (Because of health & safety concerns, only new products please): ~ Disinfecting/bleach wipes; baby wipes ~ Paper towels, toilet paper; and tissues ~ Hand soap; hand sanitizer ~ Band-Aids; gauze; medical tape ~ Washable markers; colored pencils; crayons ~ Glue; construction paper; yarn ~ Basketballs; tennis balls; playground balls ~ Board games; playing cards; printer paper ~ Inexpensive beach towels ~ WD-40; duct tape; electrical tape; masking tape ~ Garbage bags; sandwich bags

Thank you for supporting a WPC teen striving to make a difference in the lives of children! For additional information, please visit http://summercampyouthproject.weebly.com.

YAHAs TO TOUR OSU FOOTBALL STADIUM

Take time to experience scarlet and gray!

Lunch following (Optional) Wednesday, April 29

11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. tour

Go behind the scenes at the Ohio State Stadium on a guided tour that takes you inside the storied history of Buckeye Football. During a tour, you will have an exclusive look at some of the most treasured spaces in Ohio Stadium. Walk the sidelines where Woody once roamed,

Archie made history and where the Buckeyes have battled since 1922.

Experience the Yassenoff Center filled with pictures of current and former Buckeye greats.

Travel up to one of the nation's largest collegiate press boxes, where over 400 media personnel and staff are seated for games.

See the Huntington Club level and view the field from one of the 81 suites.

Visit the $1.5 million Steinbrenner Band Center, home to the "Best Damn Band in the Land."

Explore other areas of the "the Horseshoe" for a unique Buckeye experience.

There is a $10 charge per person for the tour. There is a large amount of walking involved, minimum around the perimeter of the stadium. Tours can be made accessible for those with disabilities. Please let Jan Elliott know if you need to use the elevators, etc. Groups are permitted to take photos on the field, but are prohibited from other physical activities (i.e. tossing a football, running across the field). Absolutely no food or drinks are permitted in the stadium. While many of you YAHAs (Young at Heart Adults) still work, hopefully you can take a long lunch on April 29th and join us at the “Shoe”! We will park at the Fawcett Center, then walk or shuttle people to the stadium. If you’d like to pack your lunch, we will eat together and discuss our tour back at the church. We must collect the money for your tour when you sign up. Make checks payable to WPC. The cost would be $10 each. Sign up for this fun tour in the fellowship hall on Sundays or in the church office! Your hosts are Bill and Jan Elliott.

PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Worthington Presbyterian Preschool had a GREAT turnout for its’ Parent Open House on Wednesday, March 18th. Not only did our parents attend, but we saw grandparents, siblings, and aunts and uncles! Our walls were filled with the children’s art work that they have worked so hard on during the school year. If you have a chance, visit the preschool hallways and classrooms in the next few weeks – you’ll see rain forests, nursery rhymes, “spilt milk” pictures, Dr. Seuss, and many more pieces of art made by our students.
