Towards Business Continuity Management Compliance & Certification

21 July 2011, Thursday Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur

Introduction

As earthquake, tsunami and other disas-

ters of nature threaten and disrupt busi-nesses and organisations worldwide, it is

only natural that many are reexamining

their disaster recovery and business con-

tinuity management plans. As can be

learned from country such as Japan, or-

ganisations and communities with solid

plans in place could prevent further loss

of life and damage during the time of ca-lamities.

Potential threats — natural disasters,

cyber attacks and diseases, will continue

to happen, putting businesses and organi-

zations around the globe at risk. Being

prepared and knowing how to respond

makes the difference between corporate

survival and corporate failure.

Realising the importance of

BCM, SIRIM Berhad is organis-ing the seminar ‘Towards Busi-

ness Continuity Management Compliance & Certification’

to provide organisations with a

clear and correct approach in strategising, developing and im-

plementing BCM based on in-

dustrial practices.

To assist organisations in setting up BCM in place, SIRIM Berhad together with a team of ex-

perts has developed MS 1970 Business Continuity Management—Framework. MS 1970 de-

scribes the structured process for developing a BCM framework applicable to any organisa-

tion in any sector or industry. Its scope is limited to identifying the processes involved in de-

veloping a BCM framework, the recommended sequence of steps and the minimum deliver-

ables expected from each process.

Apart from MS 1970, the following standards are also useful in BCM implementation.

BS 25999-2 - Specification for Business Continuity Management

ISO/DIS 22301 Societal Security — Preparedness and Continuity Management

Systems-Requirements

AS/NZ 5050 Business continuity — Managing disruption-related risk

NFPA 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Conti-nuity Programs

By attending this seminar, participants will be given the highlights as well as presented with a

comparison between these standards.

Adherence to BCM requirements would demonstrate organisations resilience to continually

operate especially during the event of disasters.

Why should you attend? By the end of this seminar, participants would:

Understand business continuity management general principles, concepts and requirement

Gain updates on Business Continuity Management standards and decide which standard is suitable for organisation/business

Gain better understanding through examples and exchange of experience from various sectors that complied with BCM requirements
