ECOMF – European Centre for Ocean Monitoring and

Forecasting

• A sustained service needs a sustainable service operator: the new legal entity EEIG « ECOMF » is created to be this operator

• European operational oceanography needs its European Centre: ECOMF is created to be this focal point serving the marine community’s ambition

• MyOcean and MyOcean2 have set up a valuable organization, identified its core components, and its key partnerships: ECOMF is based on this successful experience, and aims at reinforcing this organization

Timeframe

• The FP7 MyOcean2 project ends at the end of September 2014

• With Copernicus, EC has now a very good chance to have the administrative & funding framework ready for 2014.

• Beneficiaries of the following phase are not yet decided by EC.

• Our goal is to propose ECOMF and have it ready to take over the post-MyOcean2 phase and ensure full service continuity.

2011, kick-off

2012, design

2013, implement.

2014, ready ECOMF
