WELCOME in the name of Jesus! We are glad you have joined us today in praise and worship to our Lord Jesus Christ. Together we share the Gospel, God’s Good News of salvation. This is a free gift which we cannot earn and do not deserve. It is only through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who suffered, died and rose from the dead, that we are forgiven and receive the promise of eternal life.

VISITORS AND GUESTS We sincerely invite you to be with us regularly and make St. John your church home. Please stop by our Welcome Center, located in the Commons Area, for a gift and information. Worshipers who have difficulty rising and standing during our services may remain seated with our complete understanding. Assisted Hearing Devices are available to those who have some hearing impairment. To obtain a device, please check with an usher. A Nursery is available for children up to four years. A Nursing Mother’s Room, equipped with audio/visual system, is located next to the nursery. Tote Bags for children ages three through kindergarten are located in the Commons. Reserved Pews have been set aside for the residents of Bethesda. Prayer Kiosk in Commons: A member of the Prayer Team will be available to take your request, which will be given to the pastors before the time of prayer.

A SIGN–LANGUAGE INTERPRETER is available at the Majestic Grace Service.

LOST & FOUND is located in the Worship Center Commons behind the Welcome Center.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION is offered at St. John on the first and third Sundays of the month in both services. For more information about the Lord’s Supper refer to the pamphlet in the pew rack. If you have difficulty coming up to the communion rail one of our pastors will come to you.

AS WE GATHER TODAY Perhaps a paraphrase of today’s Beatitude would be, “Blessed are those who know they are in trouble, and have sense enough to admit it.” God helps those who cannot help themselves, as well as those who seek to help others. He does not, in any Beatitude offer to help those who think they can help themselves (not requiring or appreciating God’s help). Today – even as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we look to God to help those who mourn, those who are meek, and to bring the blessings of his grace to those who need it.

Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter. The Sundays of Easter continue the expression, “The Lord has risen!” Over these next fifty days between Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, the church often remembers this time of the calendar as a time of joy, celebration, and gladness. White and gold often symbolize this time to recall light, purity, and royalty.

Benevolence Fund From time to time we are able to respond to the financial needs of members and others because of the generosity of God’s people at St. John through the Benevolence Fund. If you would like to respond with a gift to our Benevolence Fund this week, you may do so, using the blue envelope in the pew rack. Simply mark your envelope: “Benevolence Fund,” and we will see to it that those funds are used to respond to the various opportunities we have to offer financial help to people and families in need.

Blessed T-Shirts | Bookstore Be sure to stop by the Sisters in Service Bookstore to pick up your t-shirt for our current series, “Blessed.” They are currently on sale for $10, and all proceeds will go to our Mission 1:8 fund (blue envelopes collected in the bookstore).

Abundant Life-101 Pastors Bahn and DeMik | Worship Center 101 This Bible study is for people who are interested in becoming members of St. John - especially for those who do not have an LCMS church background. All are welcome to attend this study.

The Son of God: The Life of Jesus Jesus Suffering and your Suffering Pastor Schultz | Christian Life Center Gym When you go through suffering, you can face it with resentment or gratitude, with complaining or rejoicing, with worry or worship, with fear or faith or with self-dependence or self-surrender. Instead of asking “God, why are you doing this to me?”, you should say what Jesus said; “Father, not my will but Thine be done” (Luke 22:42.)

The Gospel of John Diane Bahn and David Steele | Administration Center John tells a story by starting at the beginning and summarizing the most important points before diving into the details. His purpose is “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples Richard Kolodziejcyk, Darrell Wehlmann & Pastor Stephen DeMik | Chapel The multiply material is a simple, practical, Biblical, helpful, and personal tool for disciples of Jesus who want to make disciples of Jesus.

What do we believe, teach and confess as Lutheran Christians? A Look at The Formula of Concord Jim Vogt | Ministry Center After the death of Dr. Martin Luther in 1547 numerous controversies arose among his followers that threatened the very survival of the new Lutheran Church. Publication of the Formula of Concord in 1577 still serves today as an essential part of the doctrine of our church and includes inspired explanations of what we believe, teach and confess.

1 Thessalonians Singles Study

Led by various singles | Worship Center 102 This six-week study includes video curriculum segments on chapters 1-3 of 1 Thessalonians, unpacking such important topics as spiritual growth, discipleship, pure motives, spiritual reproduction and love for people.

Christian Talk Radio 100.7 FM THE WORD - KKHT Sunday, May 11, 2014

The Lutheran Hour: 6:30 - 7 p.m. Doing Good God calls us to be good-doers, rather than do-gooders. (1 Peter 2:19-25) Rev. Gregory Seltz

Engaging Truth I: 7 - 7:30 p.m. The Lutheran Hour Today Join Dr. Greg Seltz, Speaker for the Lutheran Hour, and Host Pastor David Schultz as they discuss issues presently being addressed by Lutheran Hour Ministries. Issues such as teaching our kids that God is our hope and strength to solving life's problems, not Google or the internet; developing LHM into a "multi-platform" evangelism outlet for the mission of the church; the urbanization and multi-cultural religious challenges to mission ministry; and preparing and training our churches for the 21st century mission ministry.

Engaging Truth II: 7:30 - 8 p.m. Free Behind Bars Join us as we speak with Ervin, Jeff, and Melvin from the freshman class of the Darrington (Maximum Security Penitentiary) Seminary in Rosharon, TX. We will learn of their seminary training and share their passion for their fellow prisoners, "that they too come to know the power of the Gospel to transform lives." Host Pastor David Schultz.
