Hi Guys,
March is here which means F1 in Melbourne. At the time of writing, I watched the two practice sessions
on Friday. The sound of those new V6 turbo engines is crap. It has taken away some of the spectacle
from the event, the cars don’t sound like their going fast. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the
world think when the F1s come to their country. Channel 10s coverage sucks a bit though. When there
is a break in on track activities, they interview so called “celebrities” who most people don’t care about
and what’s going on in the VIP area instead of concentrating on the motorsport. I really hope they don’t
stuff up the V8 supercars in 2015
Our first sprint event in conjunction with HSVOC is coming up on 6th April at Sandown. We need help-
ers for the event and it is the first opportunity for club plate holders to get signed off. Give me a call if
you are coming to help 0499272774.
The club recently visited Penrite to see their race car collection and talk about their products. There were
15 members who learnt a lot about oil. I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and I learnt heaps about
oil that I never knew before. It was a great night and thanks to Geoff for organising it.
Now, in bold for the benefit of the short sighted (especially the Editor) — Our next general meeting is
being held at our VPs man cave in Moorabbin. Ron has a great collection of Torana’s and several
other cars and is well worth seeing. We will be having a free sausage sizzle and drinks before the
meeting starting around 6.30. The meeting will be quick so you check out the cars and chat to Ron
about them. The address is 55a Capella Cres Moorabbin. If you are coming, please let me know so
we have enough food for you 0499272774.
I didn’t see much of Clipsal 500, but I did see the big crash that Jason Bright had, it was spectacular and
it was great to see Jason survive the incident without any injuries. It was amazing to see how quick the
team built a new car in time to get it on the grid at the GP. I followed the progress on Team BOC Face-
book page, the team spent many long days building the car and the progress made each day was incredi-
ble and it was impressive to see the car perform well in the two races on Friday at the GP. I hope the
team get a bonus from Brad.
Had my first race in the Excel series at Winton. It was a lot fun and I highly recommend it. Unfortu-
nately I had issues with the engine resulting in a loss of oil pressure so I will be replacing the engine.
The good side is that it will only cost me $200 for another engine from the wreckers. The series is going
to grow with the amount of enquiries we had at the track. I know it’s not V8s and not as fast, but it is real
racing at an affordable price.
Hope to see you at Ron’s
Cheers Bruce

Bruce’s fabulous Excel race car - it should develop into a highly competitive series, and lets face it, the price is right! We might even form an offshoot of our club, it could be called the HSCCVJ, a.k.a the Hyundai Sporting Car Club of Vic. Junior.
What is the collective noun for a group like this? A Gaggle? A Swarm? Or maybe a Rabble. All sugges-tions, send to the Prez. He’ll be delighted to award the best suggestion with a sausage at Rons on the 26th! It might even be cooked!

As the VP is flat out preparing the Cave Of Cars for our next General Meeting, he was unable to tear himself away from polishing, sweeping, painting and decorating and generally having early mornings and late nights…..well, he’s busy as, anyway. To repeat his words of last month will probably suffice: “I hope to see you all for a BBQ at my man cave on March 26th and I’ve entered Sandown on 6 April. Between now and when we catch up, have fun. See you on March 26 - I'll be waiting for you at the front door of the Man cave.” Cheers, Ron And here’s another tantalising glimpse of the contents of the shed—add a BBQ and a whole bunch of
members and the scene is set for March 26!

Hey Everyone
Not a great deal to report this month, If you haven't paid up your membership by now this is your last magazine. Otherwise the finances are quite healthy as always and make sure you all come down to Ron's man cave on the 26th of March and have a gander at his car collection, It's sure to be a cracker night! As a final note I'll leave you with a slightly badge confused commodore I sighted in Chirnside.....

Hello and welcome to March where high end motorsport takes over in Victoria with the Phillip Island Classic and the Austra-
lian Grand Prix taking place. Once again I went down to the PI Classic where we had about 30 XU-1s from Victoria and
NSW. The historic racing was spectacular and there were some fantastic cars including two of Sir Jack Brabham’s world
championship winning cars. One of my favourites was the Buick Special that was driven by Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby in
the 50s. Where else can you see a GT 40 racing with a Repco Brabham or a group of thundering F5000s not to mention a pack
of XU-1s chasing Mustangs and Camaros.
We have the HSVOC sprint coming up on April 6th and we will need flag marshals and other officials to help out as well as
entrants. If you have a car on a club permit you will be expected to help out at events to qualify for getting your renewal
signed. Hopefully we will see a good turnout of members at this event.

Ahhh March, when motorsport consumes Melbourne, it’s a great time to be Irish (or at least celebrate on their behalf), and if you aren’t having a good time, check your pulse. As Phil mentioned, the PI Classic was on at Phillip Island, a great weekend with some sensational cars both on the track, and on display around the circuit. Chantelle and I took my XU1 down to the Island, and joined the trackside display with a whole bunch of other people (including Phil, so the twins were to-gether again) who enjoy nothing better than driving 40 year old cars on a hot day with, in my case, the added bonus of having the headlining come down if all the windows are open at any sort of decent speed. Just another thing to fix before we head off to the Torana Nats next month. Or, seeing it’s a glass out job to replace it, it might have to wait till we get back. And the GP has been won and run, I can only hope Daniel Ricciardo’s appeal against his disqualification will be upheld, as the issues of the fuel usage rate was not in his control. Still, he gets the Editors Official Well Done That Man Award for a gutsy and determined drive. He can collect it from my office whenever he has a moment to spare. In other breaking news, our restoration project is picking up the pace, with Chantelles XU1 having ar-rived home at the beginning of the month, and now its re-assemble, re-trim, and re-member where all the bits are….even though I bagged and labelled everything, some parts seem to have developed a life of their own, and left home to join the circus never to be seen again. Still its getting there... And finally, if there are errors, mistakes, extended page breaks or other bits NQR in this months mag—well I broke my glasses on the weekend, my spare pair have also gone to join the circus, so I’m working under duress with a pair I found in the back of a desk which probably date from the eighties. Style wise they certainly do, and the lenses are, hmmmm, shall we say USELESS!! Also the April mag will be late—most likely early May, as we play with the Toranas in Barossa till then. Cheers, Kim

Torana line up, and a great car which must have been damned hard work to drive. Below, the Repco Brabham looked absolutely brilliant, it was great to see Sir Jack on the track, he got a great and well deserved response from the crowd.
Heavy metal on the track, the racing in all classes was great; some of the XU1’s that came from Vic and NSW, there’s another line behind them. The purple car near camera was the Unique cars give-away car a couple of years ago.

This is the special events report …..
PENRITE OIL TOUR
On the 26thof February we arrived at the Penrite Oil Factory in Bayswater. 15 members attended. Brendon greeted us. We also had time to have a good look at their classic race car collection, of which 3 of them still race today in their Penrite Oil livery. Brendon talked about the history of Penrite Oil and the chemical make up of oils. Penrite got its name from Pennsylvania Oil. “Pen” and “rite” from the right oil = Penrite. He also discussed race brake fluids, coolants, gearbox and diff oil and which applications to use. We all went away learning something and mine was what per-centage of oil, which was 70%, cools the motor and 30% water coolants in the cooling system. When the night finished, Penrite Oil products were on sale at trade prices. Sales were plentiful. The only dis-appointing thing on the night was the food or the lack thereof. Oh well, we still had a great night. Many thanks to Brendon and his crew for their time. Also, many thanks to all the members who came along and see you at the next event. Next special event will be a big one! In the pipeline is a tour of HARROPS Engineering at Preston. This will be in May so stay tuned.

Some of the Penrite cars on display, also some great bikes were there. They all get driven regularly. And below, an-other happy customer! They say he rubs it on his head to make his hair grow….
