• Since Thomas Crapper’s first water closet marketed in the 1820’s, there has been little or no progression to the humble toilet.

Our lifestyles have been transformed, we live in a virtual world, we have the internet, mobile phones and huge advancements in technology, yet still the toilet remains unimproved.

Page 4: Topenair The Patented Odour Free Toilet By Jack Swan Topen

We enjoy all these advancements, yet put up with a toilet still basically the same as it was in the mid 1800’sWe can flush away the waste but the foul odour is still very much with us!

Page 5: Topenair The Patented Odour Free Toilet By Jack Swan Topen

We have learnt to put up with the odour and learnt to mask it with air fresheners but still it

remains socially un-acceptable.Air fresheners are harmful to both ourselves and

the environment.

I have spent the last ten years working on this problem.

During this time, I have developed and patented a device which completely removes bad odours

from the toilet bowl before they can contaminate the bathroom.

The Topenair toilet complies with all British Standards requirements.

The two main areas are;

1) The Extractor fan:

This is traditionally used toremove condensation.

The Topenair toilet’s extractor fan is uses a to remove both condensation and foul odours.

2) The Water Seal.

British standards requires any appliance connected to thesoil pipe to be fitted with a waterseal. The Topenair toilet allows foul odours from the toilet bowl to be directed throughits patented water seal out to the soil pipe.

How it works?

Condensation is removed from ceiling height through the fan. Instead of exiting outside through expensive trunking, the condensation is carried down through a pipe to the patented water seal and out through the soil pipe.

Foul air is also drawn through the rim of a standard toilet bowl and is directed through the patentedwater seal to the soil pipe.

You will see that all pipe work is installed behind the cavity wall.

Please note!

There are two ways that the Topenair toilet’s foul airsystem can be put into production.

1) The foul air can be removed through the rim of a toilet bowl. Although this would only need one small hole in the back of the toilet, it would need the involvement of a toilet manufacturer.

2) Through any back to wall toilet unit. This option is described later in this presentation and would not need any toilet manufacturers input.

Topenair prototype

All parts and pipe work are are standard plumbing fittingsand would be fitted within the wall cavity. The fan would normally be fitted at ceiling height, this image shows the fan foreshortened for ease of prototypetransportation.

By following the direction of the red arrows, the root of the foul air can be traced from the toiletbowl to the water seal and hence to the soil pipe.

Why the Topenair toilet?• Costs: Installing a Topenair toilet is significantly cheaper than installing a toilet and an expel air fan,

trunking etc

• Environment: The Topenair toilet eradicates the need for air fresheners which are damaging to the environment( children and expectant mothers).

• Germs: “Aerosolization” of germs from the toilet is eradicated. (smells are germs!),

• Embarrassment: Imagine the feeling of never being bothered with toilet odours again.

• 21st century: People are looking for a more and more sophisticated standard of living. People want the latest that technology can produce. Its about time a huge advancement is made to the humble toilet.

This is a very simple low tech solution to the very real problem of foul toilet odours.

Thank you for watching.
