Since barging out of the arcade and into our homes, video gaming has been responsible for the introduction of many popular characters. Ranging from the comical to the curvy, these digitized creations have made their way into popular culture in the form of merchandising, TV, Film and even music.

With this in mind, here we are taking 10 most influential games of all time stretching over 30 years and many generations.

Bearing in mind that this is merely a list of 10, there are bound to be names that are excluded, especially those that have been more successful in certain marketplaces, for example online gaming.

Alone in the Dark is a series of survival horror compute games from Infogrames. In most of the series, the gamer plays as private investigator Edward Carnby, who usually goes to investigate a haunted mansion or town that is full of undead creatures.

The original game in the series, was developed by Infogrames and released for the PC in 1992. It was one of the first two games to use polygonal characters over pre-rendered backgrounds. Guinness World Records awarded it the record of "First Ever 3D Survival Horror Game" in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 edition.
