Message from the BoardTonopalo is an amazing place. Obviously, the prime attraction is the surroundings - truly one of the most beautiful geographical areas in the world. Our staff and management team play a huge role in our appreciation of Tonopalo and all that it has to offer. But certainly our ownership has equally an important role. Rarely will you come to Tonopalo without meeting someone new. It is this latter amenity - our owners and potential new friendships - that is sometimes the most difficult to cultivate. Our interactions with staff are unavoidable. Our interactions with other owners is often underestimated - we do not know who they are, we do not know much about them, not to mention there is also the obstacle of timing our visits, which inteferes with getting to know each other. We also have the obtstacle of how to communicate with each other.
It is our hope that this Directory will make all of this easier. Whether you wish to e-mail another owner of your home, want to read about the experiences of others, or learn more about fellow owners who might live in your area - the Directory can help with all of that!

My name is Bentley Thomas and I am the General Manager at Tonopalo Private Residence Club. I am originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL and have been an avid outdoorsman all of my life. After graduating from Appalachian State University, in the mountains of North Carolina, I decided to move to the North Lake Tahoe area to pursue the mountain lifestyle full-time. I have been a part of the Tonopalo team since the first summer of operation in 2004 and have enjoyed building relationships with both the owners and staff ever since. My favorite part of the job is sharing my knowledge and appreciation of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area with owners and their guests. I encourage everyone who visits Lake Tahoe to get out and create stories of their own to share with their family and friends.

I live on Donner Lake in Truckee with my boyfriend Jay and bloodhound Scout. I was born in the Tahoe area, but I grew up mostly on the North Coast of California. My family visited Tahoe at least a few times per year after moving away, and this area has always felt like home. I attended college at UC Berkeley, and spent as many weekends as I could up here with the Cal Ski and Snowboard Club, and then spent my summers working as a whitewater raft guide in the Truckee/Foothills region. After college I moved back for one last summer of raft guiding – that was eight years ago, and I haven’t left. I love this area and all it has to offer in terms of outdoor activities, and of course scenery! While not at Tonopalo I spend my time downhill skiing at Squaw or Alpine, Nordic skiing at the Tahoe Donner Cross-Country Center, whitewater kayaking, trail running, and rock climbing. I’m always happy to give suggestions for things to do and places in Tahoe to check out, so feel free to find me on property if you ever have any questions!

ABOUT USForrest and I have been retired for approximately 15 years. We are partners in two small businesses: one being a home health care and the other a seed growing business. Before Forrest retired, he was a land developer builder building some 1,000 homes before he retired. We have traveled a fair amount, and still love the excitement of planning and taking a trip. When not enjoying Tonopalo, Jay keeps busy with his real estate projects at Google and Willow is now with AchieveGlobal as a Senior Account Executive. ABOUT USTahoe has been a lifetime experience for us! Bill was raised in Homewood, knew the mountains with only rope tows, and had leather thongs on his skis. He worked with his parents at their lodge “The Hut” before going to the big city to attend Cal, and then worked as a stock broker in San Francisco. He continued his passion for the lake with his 18 year membership on the board of the League to Save Lake Tahoe. In 1980, he and Lynn merged their “Brady Bunch” family. All 6 children grew up enjoying Tahoe, skiing in the winters and vacationing in the summers...and still do to this day. Living in Greenbrae (Marin County), we enjoy an active retirement. Lynn follows her love of music by performing in choral groups and participating in an arts education non-profit. Bill thrives on his numerous domino and bridge games, and follows all Cal-Berkeley events. We love to travel and, of course, to spend time with our 9 grandchildren and their parents, all who live in California and Nevada. We all love Tonopalo! Since 2004, the beautiful beach, the spectacular lake view, the game room, the hot tub, and the warmth of our homes, have continued our memorable Tahoe lifetime experience.

ABOUT USDebbie and I have been married for 40 years. We have two great kids, Jennifer and Jason, who married two wonderful people, Mike and Lisa, respectively. Between them we have 5 beautiful grandkids. Debbie is a nurse and has been the right hand for the same plastic surgeon for close to 30 years. We own and operate four restaurants called Fugazzis as well as a catering and event company. Jason and Lisa live in Truckee. Jason is a dentist and an alumni of the UOP School of Dentistry. Lisa has her MS from Bastyr University and is a registered dietician but most of her time goes to raising her 3 kids: Laura (7), Kate (5), and Beckett (2). Jennifer and Mike live in Chico. Mike graduated from the University of Oregon and is a regional sales manager. Jennifer is a UCSB graduate and a stay at home mom. Jennifer keeps busy keeping her two golden retrievers in line as well as raising her two kids: Elle (4) and Dean (2). We are a big ski family. We have been renting ski homes in the Tahoe area for over 25 years. We decided it was time to slow down a little and Tonopalo looked like a great fit for our family. We bought in October and are loving it. We are so blessed to have a Fligor retreat. Thank you Lord!

ABOUT USBonnie and Duane are both retired. Bonnie is an excellent artist and has several paintings in the clubhouse at Tonopalo. Duane enjoys working out and playing golf and we are both in good health. We love Tonopalo primarily for the beauty and peace that we feel along with a great place for our dog Beau to romp on the beach. Every summer we have our family up for 4 days and everybody always has a great time.

ABOUT USBob, born in San Francisco and raised in Palo Alto, is the retired Chairman of the Board of the San Jose headquartered California Water Service Group, a New York Stock Exchange traded water utility. He is also an owner of the Pacific Storage Company, a Stockton based company with offices throughout Northern California which provides moving (Bekins and Wheaton) records and media storage, and shredding devices. Since graduating from San Jose State, he has remained a devoted Spartan athletics supporter and an active ATO Fraternity Board of Trustees member. Barbara, a Stockton native, is a retired attorney, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and the University’s Boalt Hall School of Law. Bob likes kayaking and walking. Barbara plays bridge and golf (both sort of). We have two married sons: Matthew, an attorney in San Francisco, whose family lives in Orinda and is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Santa Clara University School of Law, and Peter, a graduate of the University of Arizona and Operations Director for a large international freight forwarding and record storage company based in Hong Kong. In that capacity, having lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, England, and Hawaii, we are happy to have him and his family, for however long, back in the States, where they currently reside in New Jersey.

ABOUT USChuck & Tammy have been married 30 years and are the proud parents of 4 boys. All four boys are quite athletic, just like mom, and you will likely find them on the beach throwing a football, lacrosse balls, frisbees and taking advantage of what Lake Tahoe has to offer from wake boarding to snowboarding. Tammy has been a stay-at-home mom for the last 20 years, doing a great job in raising our boys and heavily involved in various school / PTA roles. Chuck retired in May 2013 following a 37 year career in corporate finance roles, the last 25 being at Apple, and is enjoying his time volunteering for the Americas Cup races last summer, spending time with the family and enjoying his passions of fly fishing, photography, golf and skiing. We joined the Tonopalo community 2 years ago when we realized our opportunities for the big semi-annual family vacations were dwindling as the boys get older. A place at Tahoe provides an opportunity for us to all still get together. Tonopalo is the perfect choice for us in so many ways. We particularly enjoy the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the amenities, beach and view of the lake. We also enjoy meeting all of our fellow owners of this wonderful community. ABOUT USWe have always lived in Santa Cruz. We married in 1967 and raised our children here. Bob is retired from the automobile business. We are very lucky to have our children and grandchildren living nearby - Kelly, Jeff, MacKenzie and Montanna in Santa Cruz, and Craig, Stephanie, Wilder and Reagan in Scotts Valley. Spending quality time with them is our greatest joy and Tonopalo is the perfect place to get together. ABOUT USSummer vacations at Tahoe were part of both of our lives growing up – Gordon at Zephyr Cove and Lauri at (the old) Sandy Beach. Tonopalo has not only brought back many happy memories of our childhood summers at Tahoe, it has also enabled us to provide similar experiences for our children and grandchildren. We purchased our first chapter in 2003, and were one of the first occupants of Home 11 in 2004. Since then we have only missed one week of usage (more than offset by Space Available usage), to that point that in 2010 we purchased a second chapter.
When we’re not at Tonopalo, Gordon serves on the Board of Directors for Pomona College and the Webb School. He also emjoys working out at the gym, hiking, and accompanying Dolce on long walks. Lauri volunteers part-time with Habitat for Humanity in Silicon Valley; other interests include food and cooking, reading, and gardening. We are fortunate that our granddaughters live close by and can visit often.
Keith and Toni both work in finance for start-up firms in Silicon Valley, which keeps their lives interesting. After training and working as a Chef, Leith now works for a small PR/Marketing firm in San Francisco that focuses on the Hospitality arena. Lindsey and Nora enjoy school and pre-school but greatly prefer coming to Tonopalo, as does Dolce.

ABOUT USLarry and Esther were among the first owners at Tonopalo and were there for the first week the property opened in December 2003. Larry grew up in Berkeley and is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. After serving on active duty, he returned to Berkeley to attend optometry school. After 30+ years of private optometric practice, Larry retired and now serves as Assistant Dean at the School of Optometry, University of California, Berkeley. Esther grew up in Colorado Springs and is a Smith College graduate. She was the chief operating officer for the Sideman & Bancroft law firm (after serving in similar executive administration positions at Bank of America and at the Steefel, Levitt & Weiss law firm), until her retirement in 2013. Esther and Larry have three daughters (Danielle, Nicole and Arielle) and two dogs. Their most recent hobby is developing their vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc varietals.
Eldest daughter Danielle and husband Ben (from Chicago) both graduated from Tulane University, where they met as undergraduates. Both also completed MBA degrees at Tulane. Danielle taught in the New Orleans Recovery School District for three years following undergraduateschool and now consults in the education sector and is a partner in a culinary production company. Ben works for the software company Aptify. Middle daughter Nicole graduated from the University of Arizona and now attends law school at Tulane. Arielle, the youngest daughter, graduated from Emory University in Atlanta and is attending medical school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
