Made in our own facilities in the heart of Somerset, James Wellbeloved is one of Britain’s best-loved cat food brands, supplying fantastic foods to fully meet the needs of every size and life-stage of cats.

Originally designed to help cats with itchy skin and digestive problems, we soon discovered that what helps those cats is great for all cats and our ongoing mission is to deliver an improvement in the health of every cat we feed. The key to our success continues to be our choice of ingredients – those we include and those we leave out.

We don’t use ingredients which have been most associated with problems in cats - pork, beef, dairy products, eggs, soya, wheat or wheat gluten, and we don’t add any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

We do use high quality ingredients inspired by nature - animal proteins, a choice of wholesome cereals or vegetables and a mix of trusted healthy ingredients like sugar beet pulp, alfalfa, linseed, seaweed, fish oils and chicory.

When we say turkey, we mean just turkey, turkey is the only animal protein, and we complement that with tasty turkey fat and delicious turkey gravy. This is one of the things that makes all our cat foods naturally hypo-allergenic, which means they have a reduced risk of causing an adverse food response.

Quality IngredientsThe quality of our raw ingredients is key – we know our suppliers personally and we visit them regularly. We test every delivery of every ingredient and we reject any that don’t meet our high standards.

Quality FoodHaving tested the raw ingredients, we carefully ‘mix’ and ‘cook’ them to make the ‘kibbles’ or ‘biscuits’ that you see in the bag. We test the food every half-hour whilst we’re making it to make sure the ‘mix’ and the ‘cook’ are right. The next morning, a sample goes before our panel for a final check which includes us eating some to check that the taste and the bite are good, (we all have our favourites!). No food is released until it has gone through all these thorough checks.

How much should I feed my cat?Knowing how much to feed your cat each day is a question that doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. All cats are different and so are their feeding needs and preferences. It is important to match your cat’s food and the amount fed, according to their lifestyle.

Every cat is uniqueThere are a number of factors that influence your cat’s metabolic rate. How much food they need to eat daily to maintain their ideal weight is greatly influenced by their age, size, the amount they exercise, and whether they are neutered, pregnant or nursing.

Generally, naturally large cats require more food to power their larger muscles.

Older and house cats generally lead a slower paced life and tend not to get as much exercise as young or active outdoor cats, so they need to eat a lower calorie diet that reflects their energy requirements.

Kittens, however, are undergoing energy-demanding growth-spurts, so need a higher calorie diet, fed little and often. As the kitten matures into adulthood and their lifestyle changes so will their nutritional needs.

Neutering can also influence your cat’s activity levels. In general, post neutering cats show a decline in activity but their appetite can increase at the same time. Therefore a lower calorie diet is required to prevent them from becoming overweight.


The two great measures of whether you are feeding your cat correctly are:

• Checking their weight and body condition score regularly (we recommend every two weeks).

• Paying close attention to their behaviour, energy levels and lifestyle. If you notice a tubby middle emerging or their energy starts to sap, it might be time to adjust the portions.

Most pet food manufacturers provide a daily food allowance based on the size of your cat. To help you feed your cat the correct amount for their activity level, James Wellbeloved provides cat feeding guides for three activity levels: lean/very active, normal and indoor/overweight (visit www.wellbeloved.com/ cat-feeding-guides). But remember these are just guidelines and this quantity should be adjusted according to body condition.
