Monday of this week saw our annual sports day; The day was packed full of different sporting events which included running, long jump, discus and more; these events were followed by the annual staff vs. student cricket game at Todmorden Cricket club, in which the students were victorious! The students were extremely well behaved throughout the day and everybody agreed that it was an enjoyable day, with fantastic weather too. We are especially proud of all the developments that have taken place over this year as we continue on our journey to becoming a truly outstanding school; constantly improving teaching and learning and all provisions for students at Todmorden High School so that we have a school the whole community can be extremely proud of. Fond Farewells Sadly, this year, we are saying goodbye and good luck to many of our school community. Firstly, two of our Governors, Ruth Goldthorpe, our long- standing community governor and chair of the finance committee and Claire Gee, our parent governor. We would like to extend our thanks to both for giving their time and commitment to our school. Sadly, this year we are saying goodbye to Mrs Ferris. Mrs Ferris has been at the school for 13 years. As Assistant Head of teaching and learning, she has helped turn around the standard of teaching at the school, leading it to become ‘very good’ in our most recent Ofsted inspection. Acting as Director of English, at the same time, Mrs Ferris led the English Faculty in achieving 97% A*-C in last year’s GCSE results. This result places our English teachers in the top 1% of our country. We will miss Mrs Ferris more than words can say. Also leaving the school this year, is Miss Ghelichi, who has been at the school for three years; an outstanding teacher and leader or SMSC education, we all wish Miss Ghelichi well in her new role as Lead Practitioner at her new school. Mrs Brierley, one of our outstanding science teachers also leaves Todmorden High School this term, we will miss her immensely and wish to pass on our thanks for everything she has done for the students at our school. Mrs Brierley is a highly valued Science teacher who is loved by the whole school community. She has also served as a form tutor and has offered support to the maths department in the past. Another long-standing member of our staff body will be leaving Todmorden High School this year, Lynn Howarth has been a cleaner at our school for 16 years now and will be dearly missed by staff and students. Lynn has been a true professional and a lovely lady to all. Other staff leavers this year include Ms Roberts, who is going on to develop her career at a new school; Mr Loftus, who has been very successful in securing a Head of Department’s position; Mr Humphreys, Mr Patel and Miss Benson. All of these teachers started their careers at Todmorden High School and have given their commitment to our students. We would like to thank them all and wish them well in their future careers. Return to School Arrangements As we begin, what I hope will be a very safe and restful summer break; I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support this year and make you aware of the arrangements for our return in September and also for our results days in August.
