Guess who’s back? #GoDoSTUFF TODOTODAY NEWSPAPER June 2014 RSA R10 (incl. VAT) Issue 11. Vol 01. G et your He-Man figurine out and pop some Pet Shop Boys on the radio and let’s have a really, proper, reminisce. Datsun is coming back to South Africa! And Indonesia, India and Rus- sia. We’re part of a select few countries where the brand has been re-juvenated and will be making a comeback. It’s been many years since we saw them on our roads, but this month the new Datsun Go will be taking to the tar and say- ing “hello” to the compact hatch market. There’s no hiding Datsun’s connection to the Nissan brand, and the same will be true in the new Go, which will be as similar as can be to the great Nissan Micra hatch. Datsun will find a place in the South African market as Nis- san’s “cheapie” brand, much like Infiniti are their “luxury” brand. We’ll be driving the new Go for a full review in next month’s is- sue, so don’t miss it.

Get your He-Man fi gurine out and pop some Pet Shop Boys on the radio

and let’s have a really, proper, reminisce. Datsun is coming back to South Africa!

And Indonesia, India and Rus-sia. We’re part of a select few countries where the brand has been re-juvenated and will be making a comeback.

It’s been many years since we saw them on our roads, but this month the new Datsun Go will be taking to the tar and say-ing “hello” to the compact hatch market.

There’s no hiding Datsun’s

connection to the Nissan brand, and the same will be true in the new Go, which will be as similar as can be to the great Nissan Micra hatch.

Datsun will fi nd a place in the South African market as Nis-san’s “cheapie” brand, much like Infi niti are their “luxury” brand.

We’ll be driving the new Go for a full review in next month’s is-sue, so don’t miss it.

the chinese are coming

Weirdly enough, it was while reading about an Ital-ian car maker that this bold realisation actually

hits us. We’re on a fl ight to Paris to #GoDoStuff in French and we’re reading an article about how Alfa Romeo is planning a huge comeback. The iconic Italian car manu-facturer has fallen silent over the past few years produc-ing at one stage as few as 2 models per year, and the article is saying how they’ve got a long road ahead of them that’s going to cost them a lot of money to travel.

“We want them to, but hey’ll never do it” we mutter cyni-cally to ourselves. That’s a lot of money. Only a Chinese brand can accomplish something like that. A Chinese brand like Huawei who are already doing it.

They’ve been in South Africa for years actually and you’ve no doubt come across them without even knowing it. They make those 3G dongles and internet

connectors that Vodacom and MTN charge so much for. But it wasn’t until last year with the launch of their Ascend P6 Smartphone that they properly entered the consumer tech market.

Continuing on the success of the P6, Huawei now intro-duce the P7. And it’s not just good...it’s very good.

We’ve all had a chat about it at a braai or round the fi re: the Chinese are coming. And Huawei is a typical example of the Eastern invasion that’s on its way.

Everyone else gets their stuff made in China, so they’ve got that sorted, they’re smart and sensitive to trends, evi-dent in the inclusion of their quite brilliant “Groufi e” tech-nology in the P7, they’ve for the fi nancial backing and they’re Chinese FFS. They do things properly.

Get ready Apple and Samsung. Apparently Huawei is just getting started.

Get it: R6 500From: www.Huawei.co.za

The Ascend P7 is basically made out of Gorilla Glass, so it’s got a real tough ex-terior to protect the 6.5mm chassis that houses a 5-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 1.8GHz Quad Core processor and Android with their own Emotion UI.

4G LTE technology abounds which means the ability to share the pictures you take almost as quickly as you take them: 1.2 seconds, even from the lock screen. And for the hipsters? Instagram-like lens. Free. No download.

How good are Huawei at responding to trends?

They’ve put a massive 8MP camera on the front of the phone because they know that “Selfi es” are more popular than a pair of Justin Bieber’s soiled undies.

So popular in fact that they have en-hanced selfi e functionality called “Grou-fi es” which allow you to include much, much more in your selfi e photo.

It’s pronounced “Hwa-Way”. Get it right before they get here.
