Race 1 - HYLAND RACE COLOURS PLATE - 1300 metres:
Apache Shadow - connections advised would be ridden further back; settled worse than mid-
field. Checked approaching the 1000m when tightened for room by Star Zone, which hung in
away from Miss Fonteign.
Zasorceress (NZ) - after being fractious in its starting stall, began awkwardly and then
checked off the heels of Jester Angel. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities.
Film Star Look - began awkwardly.
The Squatter - slow to begin.
La Monet - had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 1100m.
Jester Angel - laid in toward the tunning rail near the 1000m.
Jungle Sun - had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 1100m. Laid in towards the running
rail near the 1000m and shortly after this shifted out abruptly when racing greenly and then
over-raced for a short distance.
Chavuma - laid out at the turn passing the 1000m.
Miss Fonteign - raced three wide without cover from the 1000m. Eased down in the straight;
rider Patrick Moloney was of the view his mount had come to the end of its preparation and a
post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Dale Smith (Jester Angel) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions
of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in
when insufficiently clear of La Monet which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Jester
Angel and continued to shift in when insufficiently clear of Jungle Sun which also had to be
steadied to avoid the heels of Jester Angel. Dale Smith had his licence to ride in races
suspended for a period to commence at midnight February 12th
and to expire at midnight
February 21st, a total off eleven race meetings (four metropolitan, seven provincial). In
assessing penalty Stewards took into account Dale Smiths guilty plea and record and that the
incident was in the mid-range.
Race 2 - THE COVE HOTEL HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
Valentines Reward - checked severely at the start when tightened for room between Star
Planet and Black Diamond Girl, which both shifted ground.
Miss Wet n Wild - began awkwardly and struck the left hand side of the starting gate. When
laying out at the 400m had to be eased to avoid the heels of Nadawaat which shifted in
slightly.
Star Planet - began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
Equietto - rider Mark Zahra could offer no explanation for the performance other than his
mount did change stride on a number of occasions. A post race veterinary examination failed
to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3 - THE GRAND HOTEL FRANKSTON HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
Secretan - connections advised would be ridden more forward; led.
Stratigraphy - slow to begin.
Im A Flying Star - began awkwardly.
Ancient Bull (NZ) - began awkwardly and knuckled shortly after the start. Rider Mark Zahra
reported his mount felt sore behind. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities.
Bella Capri - raced wide without cover.
Caprese - rider Chris Parnham reported that the gelding will benefit from todays run as its
just weakened over the final 100m.
Race 4 - POLYTRACK HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
Tempt Me - underwent a veterinary examination behind the gates and was passed suitable to
race which delayed the start slightly.
Honourable Tycoon - connections advised would be ridden off the pace with cover; raced
wide without cover in the early stages before then settling at the rear of the field behind
Turfin Around. Passing the 600m shifted to a four wide position without cover when
improving.
Seguro (NZ) - began awkwardly.
Challenge Accepted - slow to begin.
Longkissgoodnight (NZ) - began awkwardly and was slow into stride before then being
allowed to stride forward and sit outside the leading horse, Cavitation. Laid in under pressure
in the straight.
Race 5 - SCHWEPPES HANDICAP - 1500 metres:
Gilago - slow to begin.
Magnus Slipper - held up for clear running behind Taylahs Secret from the 400m until
gaining running on that mares inside at the 250m.
Bet You She Rocks - weakened in the straight; rider Jordan Childs could offer no
explanation for the performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities other than a slow recovery.
Rosielu - weakened in the straight; rider Linda Meech could offer no explanation for the
performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6 - LADBROKES.COM.AU PLATE - 2400 metres:
Bullish Stock (NZ) - after being fractious in its starting stall, underwent a veterinary
examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race.
Aagas - raced three wide without cover in the early stages before then striding forward
passing the 1600m to settle outside Wee Frankie (IRE), the leader.
Arianne (NZ) - held up for clear running passing the 500m and made contact with Warrior
Of Fire before then shifting back in, in search of clear running.
Undercover Poet - steadied near the 400m when laying in and held up for clear running for a
short distance.
Arizona Girl - steadied at the 350m when disappointed for running between Bullish Stock
(NZ) and Aagas. Weakened over the concluding stages; a post race veterinary examination
failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Courageous Rock (USA) - weakened over the concluding stages; rider Anthony Boyd
reported his mount may be at the end of its preparation and a post race veterinary
examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Wee Frankie (IRE) - rider Ben Melham was severely reprimanded for using his whip seven
times prior to the 100m. Stewards took into account his recent excellent record.
Race 7 - LE PINE FUNERALS HANDICAP - 1800 metres:
Prince Of Babylon (NZ) - performed poorly at Moonee Valley last Friday February 5th and
trainer Mr John Sadler could offer no explanation. He advised the gelding had pulled up well
and he could find no abnormalities. After arriving on course was examined by the RV
veterinary surgeon and was passed suitable to race. On straightening laid out when being
struck with the whip. Weakened in the straight; a post race veterinary examination failed to
reveal any abnormalities. Will now be spelled.
Three Points - severely checked at the start when tightened for room by Prince Of Babylon
(NZ) which shifted out away from Racing Writer. Rider Ben Melham was fined $200 for
using his whip seven times prior to the 100m.
Allelu - slow to begin.
Congress - raced three wide without cover.
Romanze - tailed off; rider Dwayne Dunn could offer no explanation for the performance
and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8 - PREMIER SIGNS HANDICAP - 1300 metres:
Finda Fitter Filly - third placegetter; prior to correct weight connections viewed the photo
finish image before agreeing with the judges decision. Tightened at the start by Hes Our
Rokkii (NZ) which shifted in. Laid in and brushed the running rail at the 1000m and became
unbalanced.
East Afrika - slow to begin.
Panarea - laid in and brushed the running rail near the 1000m and then raced tightly on the
inside of Dodging Bullets.
Young Tigers Jeuny - when beginning to give ground approaching the 200m, had to steady
to avoid the heels of Rock n Gold (Damian Lane) which was shifting out; Damian Lane was
notified to exercise more care. When questioned, rider Luke Currie reported that whilst it was
his intention to be positive on the mare, he did not intend to be to be as far forward outside
the leading horse but did so after being caught wide in the early stages.
Hes Our Rokkii (NZ) - taken out off its course near the 150m by Finda Fitter Filly which
was hanging out under pressure.
Dodging Bullets - rider Mark Zahra reported his mount would benefit from todays first up
run as it peaked on its run passing the 200m.
