Achieve in Reading Comprehension

• Read the questions first and search for clue words.

• Read the story carefully and mark the clue words in the passage.

• Use the clue words to answer the question it matches.

• Always go back to they story if you get confused or forget information.

• Remember to practice all of the strategies that PROFICIENT READERS use!!!

Achieve with Math Word Problems

• READ the problem. Identify what information you know/ need to know

• PLAN how you will figure out the answer to the problem. What operation do you need to use to solve the problem.

• SOLVE the problem. After you have read and made a plan, put your plan into

action.

• LOOK BACK to check your answer. Does your answer make sense/is it logical? Did you write your answer in a complete sentence?

• Read directions twice and follow them carefully.

• Put unfamiliar vocabulary into your own words.

• Solve the math problem first.
