Thank you to everyonefor attending the 2015
Pi Beta Phi Convention. Please travel safely!
Celebrating 150 Years of Sisterhood
The 2015 Convention ended with a flourish at the Wine Carnation Banquet. Toastmistress and Grand Vice President Collegians CARA BALLARD SUTCLIFFE, Illinois Beta-Delta summed up the past four days with four words: legislate, educate, celebrate and promulgate. After dinner, retiring Grand Vice President Membership CINDY RICE
SVEC, Kansas Beta, was honored for her service to Pi Beta Phi. Cindy was described as an excellent party planner, hostess, gift giver and most importantly, friend. “It’s friends like Cindy that make you laugh louder, smile brighter and live better,” said Grand Vice
President Programming MARLA WULF NEELLY, Kansas Beta. Pi Beta Phi’s top awards for the 2014–2015 year were presented after the tribute. The Premier Club Award Small Group was awarded to the Nation’s Capital-D.C. Alumnae Club and the Premier Club Large Group was awarded to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Alumnae Club. The final award of the night, the Balfour Cup, was awarded to the Minnesota Alpha Chapter at the University of Minnesota. After the award winners returned to their seats, the Candlelighting Ceremony in honor of our 12 founders was hosted by Past Grand Council Member CAROLYN PAVLETICH LESH, Texas Delta. But before the evening officially ended, Grand President PAULA PACE SHEPHERD, Texas Epsilon, addressed the elephant in the room. After a drum roll, the black sheet was pulled off the large object in the center of the room to reveal the Ring Ching Roadshow car, Libbie. In honor of Pi Beta Phi’s 150th anniversary in 2017, Libbie will travel across North America to visit chapters and clubs to collect a living history of Pi Beta Phi. “Who knows Pi Phi and what it means better than YOU,” Paula said. She encouraged convention attendees to visit www.ringchingroadshow.org to read stories from the road, see Libbie’s tour schedule and request a visit from Libbie.

Our Kind of Sisterhood
In Monday afternoon’s General Session, Angelica, who always lights up the room … literally, was joined on stage by Clara Cowgirl from the 2009 Dallas Convention to announce convention attendees blew our $100,000 fundraising goal out of the water by raising $132,720. And with that, a celebratory dance party broke out! Halo Heaven sold 10,000 halos and more than 400 Holt House limited edition halos. Additionally, more than 30 convention attendees signed up to be monthly donors. Angelica thanked everyone for their support of the Foundation and assured them she would be at the 150th celebration in two years. Thank you, Pi Phis, for your incredible support! These amazing gifts mean additional funding for scholarships, leadership development, Emma Harper Turner Fund grants, our heritage and Pi Phi’s Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives. YOU are the power of Pi Phi! Don’t wait until Convention 2017 until we hear from you again. Read > Lead > Achieve Service Project Gives 10,000 Books
Monday was a big day for Read > Lead > Achieve and many milestones were shared. It was announced we’ve impacted 520,497 lives — more than half way to our goal of one million lives impacted by 2017. Grand Vice President Programming MARLA NEELLY WULF, Kansas Beta, said that if each alumnae club and chapter pledged to impact 560 lives for the next two years, we will easily meet our goal. Another exciting announcement was the locations of the 2016 Fraternity Day of Service Signature Events. Clubs and chapters across North America applied to host these special events and this year, the events will be in FIVE cities: Columbia, South Carolina; Jackson, Mississippi; Kansas City, Missouri; Sunnyvale, California; and Tampa, Florida. These five events will allow Pi Beta Phi to donate 100,000 books to those in need.
Marla also shared some news about our SitStayRead service project. Not only did we meet our goal of 5,000 social media posts, likes and shares but we exceeded it! We are leaving this weekend with 10,000 books donated to SitStayRead. Thank you to Pi Beta Phi Foundation and your gifts to The Literacy Fund for helping us secure more funds for more books. After the session, SitStayRead paid us a visit! Two service dogs, Cosi and Hank, stopped by the Read > Lead > Achieve photo booth. Cosi is a redbone coonhound and Hank is a Bernese mountain dog. SitStayRead Program Director Kate McIlvain presented us with a framed thank you note from some of the children SitStayRead serves. It was then that Marla shared with Kate that Pi Phi was going to donate more than our 5,000-book pledge. “Gifts like this make it possible for us to serve even more children,” Kate said. “And the Chicago-area kids so need this. Thank you.”

Messages of Empowerment
On the final day of convention, our two speakers had empowering messages. Author PATTI BOULANGER
JOHNSON, Oklahoma Beta, captivated attendees with her thought-provoking ideas on change leadership. Patti began with leading all in a rousing performance of Ring, Ching, Ching, then went on to share insights on why it is important to forget about perfection and just get the job done. After her talk, Patti signed copies of her book “Makes Waves” during the boxed lunch.
Our final guest speaker, Dr. Mari Ann Callais, energized and engaged the convention body with her interactive presentation, Stepping up and Leaning in. She spoke of being empowered women and encouraged the Pi Phis to “treat other women well.” She also reminded the crowd, “Words are very important, and the words we use to build people up are more powerful than you can imagine.” She closed her program by grabbing her guitar and leading the crowd in a spirited rendition of Disney’s Frozen theme song, “Let it Go.”
Meet us in St. Louis for Convention 2017!
On Monday, the best kept secret of any Pi Beta Phi convention was finally revealed. Past Grand President SARAH RUTH “SIS” MULLIS, South Carolina Alpha, asked the convention body to “Meet her in St. Louis” for the 2017 Convention for the largest gathering of Pi Phis ever! She appeared in her wine-colored helmet featured in the announcement video. We hope you will join us in St. Louis, June 23–27, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch.
