Change that works for you

Labour remain determined to add a third runway at Heathrow. To make matters even worse, they are scrapping the 1952 Cranford Agreement that protects residents east of the runway from excessive noise. The noise impact of this change is imminent.

So what’s the solution? Local Liberal Democrat councillor and prospective MP Andrew Dakers has proposed to Hounslow Council that they should work with other local authorities to use their powers under the 1972 Local Government Act to put a Private Bill before Parliament to bring back

the Cranford Agreement as primary legislation.

if you want things to be different, really different, choose the candidate and party that are able to make real change happen – andrew dakers and the liberal democrats. if we’re brave enough to make a fresh start, there is hope for a different future, a different way of doing things in hounslow and across the nation. here andrew sets out some of the local priorities he will continue to champion if you elect him as your next mp...

secure fairer fundingfor nhs hounslow Andrew has launched a petition calling onthe Department of Health and NHS London to give our local health service a fair share of funding and protect the West Mid from potential loss of its A&e. Ühttp://tinyurl.com/nhshounslow

Andrew has campaigned locally since 2000 and since his election as a councillor in 2006 has stepped up his efforts on a range of key local issues:

þ Climate change Andrew successfully challenged the Council to establish a £1m climate change investment fund and

successfully challenged the Council to sign up to the 10:10 campaign pledge to reduce its CO2 emissions by 10% in 2010

þ schools expansion Andrew supported local amenity groups that for many years were highlighting the pressure population growth would put on primary and secondary schools – eventually the Council listened and has started to put an expansion programme in place

þ health services Andrew queried the carryover of debt from the previous health authority and scrutinised dubious procedures around the retendering of counselling services

þ housing crisis Andrew suggested that the Council make the Locata housing allocation system easier to use by introducing ‘auto-bidding’ – he is still pushing for the Council to implement its promised pilot

þ historic buildings Andrew demanded action at Gunnersbury and Boston Manor Parks – and has now put detailed proposals before the Council setting out how to fund the Gunnersbury regeneration without building on the corner of the park

þ sustainable urban development Andrew led drives for further design and environmental sustainability improvements to a number of major developments across the constituency – and established award-winning Brentford High Street Steering Group to fight the decline of the town centre and catalyse regeneration

þ responsible investment Andrew set out detailed proposals, now broadly adopted by the Council’s pension fund, to raise the responsible investment practices of the authority’s multi-million pound pension fund assets
