“...sensational, a highlight of the year…one of the best-kept secrets in the business” — THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

Warsaw Philharmonic OrchestraWednesday, November 2 at 7:30pm • Centennial HallFor more than 100 years, the Warsaw Philharmonic has been one of Poland’s most distinguished musical institutions. The 2016-2017 season marks their fourth U.S. na-tional tour and the fi rst U.S. tour with Music and Artistic Director Jacek Kaspszyk, who was appointed in September 2013. The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra blends two worlds into one, combining the folk sensibilities of traditional Polish music with the presentation of a classically trained orchestra. With the fl uidity and lightness of Kaspszyk’s direction and a cast of highly accomplished players, the company’s immer-sive experience is not to be missed. This performance will feature South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho, the 21-year-old winner of the prestigious 2015 Chopin International Piano Competition.

“In his hands, Bach’s music turns into quotidian sound, a music fully part of the now.” – THE NEW YORK TIMES

Matt Haimovitz: A Moveable FeastSaturday, January 14 at 8pm • Crowder HallCellist Matt Haimovitz inspires classical music lovers and new listeners alike by bringing his artistry to anywhere passionate music can be heard. Lending a fresh ear to familiar repertoire while initiating groundbreaking collaborations, Haimovitz offers a brilliant musical variation on the concept of a moveable feast, performing each of the 6 Suites for Solo Cello by J.S. Bach, each with its own commissioned overture from one of today’s great composers. Three of the suites will be performed at the Crowder Hall recital while three will be performed on the previous day at a variety of locations in the community.

“...Perlman showcased his virtuosity as the world ’s greatest violinist.” – HOUSTON PRESS

Itzhak PerlmanWednesday, January 11 at 7:30pm • Centennial HallGrammy and Emmy-winning violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman is a true legend, with a super-star status rarely bestowed upon classical musicians. Beloved for his charm, humanity and talent, Perlman is treasured by audiences worldwide who respond not only to his remark-able artistry, but also the irrepressible joy for making music that he communicates at every performance. “They play with a sharp attack, a rhythmic punch and a new joy in living.” – THE TIMES, LONDON

The Academy of St. Martin in the FieldsTuesday, March 28 at 7:30pm • Centennial HallThe Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is one of the world’s premier chamber orchestras, renowned for its polished and refi ned sound and rooted in outstanding musicianship. Formed by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians, and working without a conductor, the Academy gave its fi rst performance in its namesake church on November 13, 1959. Originally directed by Sir Neville from the leader’s chair, the collegiate spirit and fl exibility of the original ensemble remains an Academy hallmark. Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, currently serving as the fi rst artist-in-association of the New York Philharmonic, joins them. Barnatan is celebrated for the unique approach, probing intellect and consummate artistry he brings to a broad range of repertoire.

“They can make a classical music lover appreciate hip-hop, and vice versa.” – BRADENTON HERALD

Black ViolinThursday, April 13 at 7:30pm • Fox TheatreWilner ‘Wil B’ Baptiste (viola) and Kevin ‘Kev Marcus’ Sylvester (violin) are Black Violin, a South Florida duo who fuse classical music chops with hip-hop infl uences, pitting their virtuosic string-play against groove-and-beat driven production to bring another dimension of drama to compositions. With a loose approach to their instruments and the ability to spool out “freestyled” elements in their live set, Black Violin represents a facet of classical music that is approachable above all else. “Techniques are not forced,” says Baptiste. “We allow it to fl ow. We aren’t trying to come up with a crazy concept.”
