Dear Class of 1965 Member,

On behalf of Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz and the Office for Development and Alumni Affairs, we take great pleasure in welcoming you to your 50th Anniversary Reunion.

This is a wonderful opportunity to observe firsthand the dramatic changes that have taken place at Hofstra University, particularly in recent years. We invite you to reminisce and appreciate how you and your classmates are links in a very strong chain.

Class of 1965Stanley Howard AlexanderI graduated with a BA in history in 1965. I also earned an MALS from Stony Brook and an MPA from LIU CW-Post. I have been married to Lorraine for 39 years and enjoy traveling. I have three children and two grandchildren. In my 47th year as a history professor at Suffolk County Community College and continue to teach full time.

Barbara Steinman BengelsIn 1965 I graduated with a BA in English. I also have an MA in English and have been married to Dennis A. Bengels for 50 years. I love to read, write, spend time with my family, travel and go to the theater. I have happily taught at Hofstra since 1968 with wonderful colleagues and delightful students, and feel very connected to this school. I will always be grateful to Hofstra, first for giving me the full-tuition scholarship that allowed me to attend college, but also for giving me a

first-rate education, something I didn’t truly appreciate until I got to graduate school.

Martin Blank and Linda Solomon BlankMartin Blank, BBA 1965, and Linda Solomon Blank, BBA 1965, are retired and live in Lake Worth, Florida.

Helen Ann Shellard CollinsI earned a BSEd in 1965 and am married to Richard Collins. I retired in 2000 after 35 years of teaching in Levittown Public Schools.

Janice Arlene Commentz I earned a BS in music education in 1965. I taught music for 37 years before retiring in 2002. Among my many activities, I play viola in the Senior Pops Orchestra of Long Island and sing in a small choral group.

Ann Marie Cammarasana Cunningham In 1965 I earned a BA in English. I was married in 1966 and divorced in 2000. I have two children, John and Christine. I worked as a substitute teacher. I am still employed and work for the Valley Stream Recreation Department. My sociology professor, Dr. Herbert Rosenbaum, had an influence on me. I became a Democratic committee woman in 1972 (still am). I was president of

my Democratic Club and was a candidate for supervisor of the Town of Hempstead in the 1980s. I lost the election, but was very involved in Democratic politics. I’m still a committee woman in my town.

David C. FinnertyI earned a BS in electronic engineering in 1965, and I have been married to Janice for 58 years.

Alan David GoldklangIn 1965 I graduated with a BS in economics. I have been married to Carol Goldklang for 47 years. I spent 28 years as a retail buyer; bought housewares, glass, crystal and giftware for B. Altman & Co., Time Square Stores, Channel, Pergament and Hempstead China. I also owned my own food distribution business for 16 years, selling snack food to supermarkets. I have three children

and eight grandchildren, love to garden and travel, and I am now retired.

David C. GoldmanIn 1965 I graduated with a political science degree. I have been married to Beth Kleinman-Goldman ’66 for 43 years.

Susan M. Lippert GoldsteinIn 1965 I graduated with a BS in education, and I have been married to Samuel for 47 years. Mother of two; grandmother of four. Live in Delray Beach, Florida, and Old Bethpage, New York.

Richard G. KaneI received a BA in fine arts in 1965. I have been married to Rebeca Perez for 50 years. Two happily married daughters, four grandkids. I am still exhibiting and selling my art, which can be seen at richardkaneart.com.

Errol KatcherIn 1965 I graduated with BA in Englis h and earned an MBA in finance from Hofstra in 1979. Married, to Sharonann (Peterson) ’66, three kids, and they collectively provided five more to love. Still actively working, my own firm, consulting in group health care coverage with a primary focus on union-related plans. Never have gotten past thinking a pun is the lowest form of humor, but the best. Bright use of

language is the peak of funny. Most vivid memories? My first year, New College … the rest of the campus called us the “zoo.” Close to the truth. But, a marvelous year; the most intellectually creative I can imagine.

Edward A. Kaufman I received a BA in biology in 1965, and have been married to Alice Clouier for 42 years. I’m proud that I won my case against the U.S. government for drafting me illegally for the Vietnam War. After immigrating to Canada in 1967 (still here), I became a high school science teacher. Now retired, I do investments. All the best to the class of ’65!

Michael Neal KlarI earned a BA in 1965 and also have a JD. I have been married to Carol ’66 for 48 years. Matrimonial attorney; for many years the largest collector of Brooklyn Dodgers baseball memorabilia between 1947 and 1957. Assisted the Baseball Hall of Fame in editing its annual almanac.

Class of 1965Judith Cain LambertIn 1965 I graduated with a BA in speech pathology and audiology. I also have an MA in audiology from NYU. I’m astonished that in 2015 I’ll be celebrating the following anniversaries: 50th from Hofstra, 55th from highschool and 50th in marriage. After graduating, Jerry and I lived in NYC for

13 years before returning to Westbury. We find ourselves at Hofstra for many events such as the Shakespeare Festival and scholarship fundraising activities. I worked for 35 years as an audiologist at Long Island College Hospital and Adelphi University. Since retirement, we have remained active by bicycling, hiking, walking and kayaking. My hobbies include knitting, weaving, gardening and reading. I volunteer at Old Westbury Gardens and have served on the board of Long Island Knit & Crochet Guild.

Stefan H. LeaderIn 1965 I graduated with a BA in political science. I also earned an MA and PhD from SUNY Buffalo. I have been married to Andrea Heintzelman for 13 years. Retired since 2010, and my hobbies include sailing, softball, traveling and teaching English as a second language to a refugee family.

Linda LeafLucky people get to attend their 50th Year College Reunions. Really lucky and blessed people get to attend their 50th College Reunion at Hofstra; an ongoing source of Pride for all of us. Thank you to all those who have enriched and influenced our lives. May your efforts combined with ours do the same for generations to come.

Betty Ann Stansky LohrI earned a BA in social science in 1965. I also have an MA in business and have been married to Frederick Lohr for 44 years. Facebook; past president IAWP (International Association of Workforce Professionals).

Lewis Michael MastersI graduated with a BS in engineering electronics in 1965. I’ve also earned an MS and have been married to Rochelle Masters for 56 years.

Anne Leah Epstein RaybinI graduated with a BS in 1965. I also have an MA and am married to Jack Raybin.

Edward J. RosenthalIn 1965 I graduated with a BBA in accounting. I have been married to Ilene Abramson Rosenthal for 49 years.

Bonnielee Ferguson RugeI received a BA in chemistry in 1965. I also have an MS in secondary education and have been married to Ronald F. Ruge for 37 years. Past president, Spring Hill Garden Club; past regent, Winding Waters Chapter NSDAR; past senior regent; Spring Hill Chapter Women of the Moose.
