Y5-6 Solving word problems – addition and subtraction

1. A school has 824 pencils. 3,783 more were ordered for the year. If throughout the year 2,511 were used, how many pencils will be available for the next school year?

2. A theme park has 16,372 visitors during June. Throughout July, 8,264 visitors entered the theme park. In June, 4,678 of the visitors were children. During July, 1,047 of the visitors were children. How many adults visited the theme park during June and July?

3. On Sunday morning, there were 14,576 spectators in the football stadium. By lunchtime another 16,376 people had arrived to watch the match. At half time 8,245 spectators left and went to get food while another 2,576 went out to use the toilet. How many people were still in the stadium at half time?
