Unlicensed forhire vehicle companies such as Uber and Lyft are expanding throughout the U.S. and around the world, operating with complete disregard for local transportation laws. These companies, commonly referred to as Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) insist they are not taxicab companiesdespite performing the exact same functions as the taxicab industry. Major U.S. Cities Uber Regulations Overview

New York: Uber must follow all the rules as forhire transportation companies including 10 print background check. Mayor Bill de Blasio is doing a study to limit Uber vehicles due to congestion on the street. Uber vehicles carry a fraction of the passengers that taxis do. Los Angeles: Council is in a debate to require 10 prints for Uber vehicles at the Airport for public safety reasons. California PUC is looking at 10 prints along with other measures to further regulate Uber. Uber has been fined $7.3 million dollars and has been given thirty days to comply with PUC regulations are be shut down. State bills introduced regarding 10 prints and that Uber cannot hire sex offenders. Los Angeles District Attorney, Jackie Lacey, has sued Uber for false advertisement that their background check is better than 10 print. "Uber continues to put consumers at risk by misleading the public about the background checks of its drivers," Lacey said. Chicago: All drivers that drive more than 20 hours a week must get a fingerprint background check and follow forhire regulations. Aldermen have recently introduced bills requiring 10 print and further regulations after alleged rape by a man using his wife’s Uber account. Houston: The city requires 10 print after 30 days. After an alleged rape and 2,000 drivers were found not in compliance with the 10 print requirement, Mayor Parker demanded a list of all drivers on the streets. Uber refused and is suing the city. Trial is set for October. Additional regulations should be expected regarding 30day wait period and ADA requirements on Uber. Uber has been ticketed more than 1,600 times for illegal street hails and other violations. Philadelphia: On June 16, 2015, a judge sided with Philadelphia Parking authority declaring Uber X illegal. City has impounded numerous vehicles. Philly requires 10 print for forhire vehicles. Phoenix: The city has always been deregulated. Arizona passed a law in April 2015 that allows Uber to use their background check. Uber X’s current rate is $1.05 per mile. San Antonio: The city requires 10 print for all forhire drivers.

Dallas: The 10 print check is not required for Uber or Taxis. Drivers must go through city background check and register . Dallas has now engaged on 10 print after Driver with fake ID raped a woman. Fort Worth taxi drivers must go through city background check. Uber is not legal in Fort Worth.

Austin: Mobility committee is expected to recommend 10 prints, fees, enforcement and ADA requirements. Uber is suing city of Austin and not giving information under ordinance.
