Solution: Reduce some weed and reed growth in the vicinity of the bridge. Dig out the silt in the immediate area of the bridge. Carry out a rock placement programme around all bridge footings and replace a layer of silt over, to maintain the natural species habitat. Working with Bam Nuttall, the principle contractor, TMS Maritime has undertaken this work on the River Avon in North Wiltshire. A silt screen was placed down stream of the bridge, but at 10cms above the river bed, to allow river wildlife to navigate the river unhindered. However, prior to any silt excavation and rock placement, a rock causeway was built to give plant access to the bridge footings. River work is always environmentally sensitive and TMS Maritime are experienced in working in all fresh and salt water environments, with the presiding agencies, to ensure wildlife is protected during civil engineering works.
