ApplicationSolenoid valves for gas VAS for safeguarding and con-trolling the air and gas supply to gas burners and gas appliances. For use in gas control and safety systems in all sectors of the iron, steel, glass and ceramics indus-tries, also in commercial heat generation, such as the packaging, paper and foodstuffs industries.

The modular design principle allows the individual components of the VAS Series to be easily assembled:e.g. quick opening, slow opening, with position indicator and visual indicator, quick opening with attached pressure switch.

FunctionThe gas solenoid valve is closed when it is disconnected from the power supply.Opening: Alternating voltage is applied and fed to the solenoid coil via a rectier with a suppressor circuit. The blue LED lights up. The coils magnetic eld pulls the armature with the attached valve disc upwards. The solenoid valve VAS opens. The force distribution of the supply pressure on the two valve seats is almost com-pensated for by having the double valve seat.Closing: The VAS is disconnected from the voltage sup-ply. The blue LED goes out. The armature is pressed into its initial position by the closing spring. The valve closes within 1 s.The strainer in the inlet of the valve prevents deposits of dirt particles on the seat. The pressure loss through the strainer is almost zero. The ow rate can be varied by a ow adjusting screw within a range from 20 to 100%. The setting can be monitored on an indicator.

VAS..N, quick openingThe solenoid valve for gas VAS..N opens within 0.5 s.

    Function

VAS..L, slow openingThe solenoid valve for gas VAS..L opens within 10 s.Start gas rate adjustment: A start gas rate can be set on the valve. This means that the valve opens with a quick initial lift and then continues slowly until it is fully open. This setting is required, for example if a tight-ness check is to be conducted with TC. By turning the damper housing the start gas rate can be set between 0 and 70%. Turning it clockwise will increase the start gas rate and turning it anti-clockwise will reduce the start gas rate.

VAS..S, position indicator and visual indica-torThese devices are tted with a microswitch to supply open and closed signals.Opening: When the valve is opened the position indicator is operated rst. This in turn activates the visual position indicator. The open signal is marked in blue. Only then does the double valve seat open to release the volume of gas (overtravel principle).Closing: The voltage supply is disconnected from the solenoid and the closing spring presses the double valve disc on to the valve seat. The position indicator is then actuated and the visual position indicator jumps to shut. The actuator cannot be rotated on a gas solenoid valve with a position indicator and a visual position indicator.

Project planning informa-tionThe inlet pressure pe and the outlet pressure pa can be measured at the pressure test points at both ends.

Sealing material and thread cuttings must not be allowed to get into the valve housing. We recommend that a lter be in-stalled upstream of every system.

The solenoid body heats up during operation up to 90C depending on ambient temperature and voltage.

InstallationInstallation position vertical or hori-zontal, not upside down.

The VAS may not be in contact with masonry. Minimum clearance 20 mm.Do not store or install the unit in the open air.

Ensure that there is sufcient installa-tion space around the ange screws and the actuator.

If more than three valVario controls are installed in line, the controls must be supported.
