Title: Memory Created by Joshua Yardley Date: March 9, 2013 Materials: Please list all materials needed including any documents you will upload with the lesson plan.
Preparation (approximately 60 minutes)
Memory Cards
Procedure: Please include variations, adaptation, and special notes. Delete any extra cells at the end.
Stage Procedure (approximately 30 minutes)
1 Print and cut the memory cards. You will want to print them on opaque paper or glue the cards onto colored paper so students cannot see through them. You will notice that each word matches one picture.
2 Put the students into groups and give each group a stack of cards. Each stack should contain 25 or 36 cards.
3 Tell the students to put the cards face down on the table. They should make a box that is 5x5 or 6x6.

Stage Procedure (approximately 30 minutes)
4 The teacher writes any verb tense on the board, e.g. simple past.
5 1 student turns over a card, leaving the card in its place so everyone can see it. The student creates a sentence using action on the card and the tense on the boards. For example, if the card has the word “drive” or a picture of driving, the student says “They drove the car.” The same student turns over another card, again leaving it where it is so all the other players can see it. If they correctly selected the match, they say, “They drove the car too.” They then collect the matching cards and place the match in front of them on the table. If the 2nd card is not a match the student says, “They did not drive the car.” Then the students turn both cards face down in the exact same place. The other players should try to remember the cards they saw.
6 If a student gets a match, they get another turn. If there is no match, the turn moves to the next player.
7 The game continues until all the matches have been found. The students with the most matches at the end wins.
8 This can be used to practice any verb tense. The teacher can make their own stack of cards for vocabulary lists as well, using images or translations.
