This week we’re going to watch a short film on The Literacy Shed to help us with our writing. Division is an area of maths that can be tricky so we’re going to go over what we have learnt so far. Remember, when a number doesn’t divide exactly, we are left with remainders. Watch - https://vimeo.com/497601665 Stop the video at the relevant points and complete up to questions 7 on the sheet below. Question 8 requires place value counters, which you won’t have at home. Question 9 is a challenge. If you would like to challenge yourself, then see if you can have a go.

Think back to the work you did last week about using speech marks. Use that knowledge to write a conversation between the meerkats. There is a poster below with some reminders about how to use speech marks. There is also a small clip on the following BBC website to remind you. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvftsbk

What do you think the meerkats would say to each other? Try and use alternative verbs for said. Here are some to help you – shouted, exclaimed, replied, whispered, moaned and squeaked.

Geography Can you remember where in the world Greece is? Can you name the capital city and the seas that surrounds it? What countries does it border? Can you name any Greek islands? Watch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw4oeZzcP24 Look at this picture of white Greek houses – compare with UK houses. Why white? Because it reflects light. Greece is in the top 5 most popular holiday destinations for British people. Why do you think this is? What does Greece have to offer? Look at www.visitgreece.gr and watch the video and look at the blog. Task Write a blog or design a poster for the above website persuading tourists to visit the country of Greece. PE Have another go at completing your challenge from last week. Can you add one more onto your score? Keep on persevering and don’t give up!

Today we’re going to carry on learning about remainders. We’re going to watch another video from White Rose Maths – https://vimeo.com/497936690 Stop the video at the relevant points and complete the sheet. Question 1, part d, suggests using place value counters, but you could probably tackle this question without them. It looks like a lot of questions to answer, but look carefully for the pattern.

We’re going to continue thinking about using speech marks today. Remember to use the poster below, and watch any of the clips from before to remind you. Using all of that information, can you write a conversation between the meerkats and the vulture? Watch the video again and start your conversation from when the vulture lands on the branch, what would he say to the meerkats and how would they respond? Keep the conversation going using speech marks up to the point where the meerkats get the fruit back from the vulture and start throwing it to each other in the sky. Remember –

Each new character's speech starts on a new line.

Speech is opened with speech marks.

Each line of speech starts with a capital.

The line of speech ends with a comma, exclamation mark or question mark.

Close the speech with speech marks.

Can you also add some narrative into the speech? For example – “Hello,” squawked the unkind looking vulture. “What do you want?” questioned the meerkats feeling rather nervous. They could see their beautiful fruit only a few steps from the vulture. “Please don’t hurt us,” the meerkats begged. “I’m not interested in you, it’s this juicy fruit that I want,” sneered the vulture. With

RE Last week we found out about the Bible. Hopefully you’ll remember that the Bible is split into 2 parts – the New and the Old Testament. This week we are going to learn more about the new testament. Watch the link below and write the answers out to these questions. Remember to write your answers in full sentences. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvhyr82

1.Who is the New Testament about? 2.Where does the New Testament begin? 3. Was the New Testament originally written in English? 4. How many years after the death of Jesus was the New Testament put together? 5.Who wrote the first 4 books in the New Testament? 6.What’s the fifth book of the New Testament called? 7. What does the word gospel mean in Greek? News Go onto espresso https://www.discoveryeducation.co.uk/ click log on then select Espresso username: student3817 password: milverton Go onto the KS2 page and watch this week’s news and complete the newsbites quiz.

Daily Reading Read something of your choice out loud to a grown up. Practice using expression in your voice; make your reading clear and fluent. Look at the sheet below and have a go at the questions. Once you have completed the sheet, watch the link below. The link goes through the sheet and talks through the answers to the sheet and explains some of the more tricky bits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QFAVnX8C5E

The film is left a bit open ended. Watch the ending again and write down the answer to the following questions. Remember to write your answers in full sentences. 1.How do you think the meerkats felt when the vulture crashed into the cliff? 2.What game did the meerkats start to play with the fruit? How do you know? What clues are there? 3. How did the meerkats feel when the fruit went over the crossbar (tree branches)? Did they stay feeling like this or does something change their feelings? Finally, can you write what happens next? Do the meerkats go home? Does the vulture get the splatted fruit? Do the meerkats eat the fruit? How do they feel? What do they say to each other?

French We are going to learn the names of some animals we may have as pets. Go onto – https://www.french-games.net/ Click on topics and choose beginner. Choose the topic Animals – pets and then click on tutorial. When you start the tutorial, a picture will appear of an animal and the word will be spoken. Listen carefully to the pronunciation. There are 3 activities that you can choose from after the introduction, these are yes/no, either/or and what is it? Once you are confident you can move onto the games section. Please focus on the spelling game, mix and match and matching pairs (pelmanism). To practice the spelling try the hangman game and for listening skills try the Sow grow game. Alternatively, perhaps someone in your family needs to use the laptop or computer? Once you have done the tutorial you could take a piece of plain paper and draw a picture of each of the animals and write the French word next to it. PSHE At this time of year, we often think about setting a new year’s resolutions or setting a goal. Read the story below, ‘Jason and his Goal’ then talk about the following questions with your grown up. 1. What goals had Jason already achieved in his life? 2. Do you think that Jason was somebody who had to work hard to achieve these goals? 3. Why did Jason find it hard to play the violin? 4. What could he have done to get better at the violin? 5. What qualities did Phil have that helped him to achieve his goal to complete 3 violin exams? 6. What advice would you give to somebody who is trying a new skill for the very first time?

Daily Reading Create somewhere comfortable to read and enjoy a book. Maybe make a den or snuggle up under a blanket. Have some quiet time and get lost in your book. Daily Tables Log onto espresso. https://www.discoveryeducation.co.uk/ click log on then select Espresso username: student3817 password: milverton Go onto the KS2 page, select maths and scroll right down to the bottom and select the Times tables tester. Choose activities then choose the X table you have been learning and complete the challenge activities. Daily Spellings Ask a grown up to test you on a range of the plurals you have been learning with different endings.

Jason and his Goal – Friday 29th January

Jason and his goal

Jason was a boy who was good at a lot of things at school and he loved to be the best at new activities too. He always got the top marks in tests and was picked for school

football teams every time there was a competition. Jason never even had to try very hard at these things, he was naturally very talented. As a result, he felt confident that

he could achieve new goals.

One day, Jason’s best friend Phil started violin lessons. Within a few months, Phil was very good. He had been practicing every night at home and his teacher said he had done well to reach

his goal of completing the first violin exam.

Jason decided that he would start violin lessons too. So, he went along to lessons on a Tuesday night. However, he could not make the same lovely sound that Phil could and he struggled to

read the music. It was new to him and he didn’t find it easy. He also felt like the teacher liked Phil more than him. He got very angry, stopped practicing and gave up violin lessons after 1

month of trying. He even got jealous of Phil, Jason wasn’t used to him being better at something.

Phil continued to practice every night and went on to do 2 more violin exams. Jason decided to go back to doing well in tests and at football.
