exploring the different carriages which were open and looking at the sheds. Isabel M, July 2016

Explore and discover the Steam Railway’s historic collection of locomotives, carriages and wagons through Train Story. You’ll uncover the lasting impact the railway has had on our lives with interactive activities and stunning displays. Journey through the Island’s locomotive history, as far back as 150 years by exploring the carriages we have at our discovery centre.Bring the history of the railway to life with stories of the people who worked here. Like May Joyce who joined the railway as a guard during World War II then later went on to marry an engine driver.Get up close to locomotives, wagons and carriages in various states of preservation. With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, the discovery centre allows us to show off more of our rolling stock and collection of artifacts. Train Story tells the story of the Isle of Wight’s railways and is an impressive re-creation of the heyday of steam on the Island.

Train Story is open daily between April & September and throughout March, October and December on

train operating days only.
