Sin separates people from God

God provided a covering for their sin

FLOOD Noah

People continued sinning more and more

God told Noah to build an ark

He was going to destroy his creation due to sin

Noah, his sons Ham, Shem, Japheth, and their

wives survived the flood in the ark

2000 BC Abraham

God told Abraham to move his home from Ur of

Chaldees to Canaan

God promised Abraham he would be Father of a

great nation, because of his faith

Abraham, obeyed God and was about to

sacrifice Issac his son, “God provided a ram

Isaac had twin sons Esau and Jacob

Esau gave his inheritance to Jacob

Jacob was renamed ISRAEL, he fathered 12

sons

His family is known as the 12 tribes of Israel

They are called Israelites, Hebrew, or Jewish

1850 BC Jacob

Jacob’s Sons: Rueben, Simeon Judah, Levi, Asher, Gad,

Dan, Issachar, Zebulon, Naphtali, Benjamin, Joseph

Jesus is a descendant of the son named Judah

Jacob moved his family to Egypt when a

famine to Canaan

Jacob’s family was enslaved in Egypt 400 years

1400 BC Moses

Moses born in Egypt to a Hebrew woman

He was raised by Egyptian King’s daughter

Moses led the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery

They arrived in Canaan after wandering 40

years

God ruled the Israelites; they did not need a

king

Men did as they thought was right in their own

eyes

They were rebellious

Judges settled issues that arose among them

Samson, Gideon, Deborah, Samuel are well

known judges

1000 BC Kings

The Israelites demanded a king, like other nations

Thereby, they rejected God, who was their ruler

God told Samuel to do as the people demanded

King Saul

Samuel anointed Saul, tribe of Benjamin, King

King David

David, tribe of Judah, was their second king

Jesus is a descendant of King David

King Solomon

The third king, Solomon, David’s son, built the

Temple at Jerusalem

Prophets

God sent prophets to warn kings, people and

nations to stop sinning, and to return God

Rise of Assyria – Nineveh

Isaiah gave his major prophecy during this time

Assyria captured Israel, the 10 Tribes

made up Northern Kingdom

Rise of Babylonian Empire

Babylon captured Judah, made up of2 the

Southern Tribes

Judah and Benjamin

The people were deported to Babylon

The prophets Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel

lived during this period

Persia conquered Babylon

Persian King permitted Israelites to return to

Jerusalem

Ezra rebuilt temple at Jerusalem, found

scriptures, the law, in the rubble

Nehemiah rebuilt wall at Jerusalem in 53 days

Rise of Roman Empire

NEW TESTAMENT

3 BC – 1 AD Jesus

Jesus was born to die for man, to save man

Jesus was God in human flesh

He was born during census time in Jerusalem

He grew up in Nazareth near the sea of Galilee

The Romans ruled Jerusalem, Herod was king

12 AD

At age 12, Jesus traveled to Passover the

observance at the Temple in Jerusalem

Was separated in the crowd of travelers on trip

home

Mary and Joseph found him at the Jerusalem

Temple three days later

He was teaching the learned religious leaders

30 AD

St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John, each wrote

a different account of Jesus’ life

Rose from dead and sin and death

Was seen by about 500 people during 40 days

after his resurrection from death

The Holy Spirit

Christianity spread as followers left for safety

Paul became the greatest missionary

Other writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John,

Nero was Roman Ruler

Jerusalem temple destroyed by fire

John recorded Revelation of Jesus Christ

Some will believe, other will not

Jerusalem was destroyed

Jesus established the church

The believers are the body of Christ

Jesus instituted baptism and Lord’s Supper

for believers
