In the past, there has been market reluctance to adapt toIP-based surveillance systems, often because they areperceived as being more complicated than conventionalanalogue solutions.
The analogue surveillance market has been developed toembrace digital video technology over a number of yearsprimarily by using analogue cameras, supported by digitalvideo recorders (DVRs). IP based security systems provide higher image quality than DVRs, asa network video recorder (NVR) does not need to compress incomingvideo sources (as this is supplied by the cameras). However this func-tion alone will not fulfill the end users’ expectation.

In allowing a cascadable and hierarchical connection structure be-tween cameras and NVRs, users can select the easiest and most costeffective way of cabling for their specific application. DirectIP™ so-lutions inherently use less cabling and leverage PoE so that PoE cam-eras and devices do not need external power cables.

DirectIP™ is inexpensive with no hidden costs; there are no additional licensefees or annual update fees compared with competitive solutions. Installationfees are also lower compared with DVR or HD-SDI alternatives that require high-cost cabling.
This is especially the case for multi-levelled building installations, for exampleDirectIP™ cameras and NVRs only require the minimum of communicationconnectivity. As DirectIP™ NVRs are easy to use and do not require specialisedknowledge the associated training fees are subsequently lower.
