THE TIME MACHINE TRAVELAll the time and effort we had put into this... it was all worth it. - It’s working! Said Oliver There it was, the time machine. - But how does it work? Said Jonathan - You just pick the date, event and time, like this: June 14, 1969, 2 days before the first man was sent to the moon, said Oliver.- And then, you press the big button… Let’s go! - Where are we? Said Maj - Florida, America. This is the day when the man took his first steps on the moon. Said Oliver_________________________________________________________We parked the time machine and looked at everything.The clothes they were wearing… Many had long jeans.The jeans were tight at the top and flared in the bottom.Many had their jeans very high up! It looked funny. You could tell denim was very popular because almost everyone had them.Skirts, jackets, jeans, everything!Many women had scarves, around the neck and on their head!Many people had peace signs on their t-shirts and the men wore white polo shirts. Everyone stared at us. Our clothes weren't so ‘’old-fashioned’’. We studied before this day, so we would be prepared and have knowledge for things that happened that year, and even before.___________________________________________________________Niki: I looked up some information about science and Medicine events in 1969 and even years before.This is what I found:The medical profession transformed itself after World War II.New methods of diagnosis and treatment expanded the physicians healing powers. When Lyndon B. Johnson was president, on November 22, 1963 to January 20, 1969 good medical care extended to the poor and the elderly for the first time in history, and it was very expensive.

1969 was the year when the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Max Delbrück, Alfred D. Hershey and Salvador E. Luria,For their discoveries about the replication mechanism and the genetic structure of viruses. Science in 1969 got much better, like for example the moon landing.It took a lot of knowledge and skills to finally send the first man on the moon.This was considered as the greatest technological event of human civilization.It also represents some of the largest investments in science by the government. Some important science and technology milestones in 1969:

● The first computer-to-computer message was sent in 1969.● On April 4, 1969, Dr Denton Cooley, a Houston heart surgeon, performed the first

successful heart implant on a human patient.● On April, 1969, doctors at Methodist Hospital in Houston performed what was

billed as the first human eye transplant on John Madded, 54 years old. ___________________________________________________________

Maj: Wow, this was very interesting. Niki: What information have you found Maj?

Maj:I found information about the politics and religion. Nixon the 37 president.Barack Obama the 44 president. Born on 9Th January, 1913.

● The president: Richard M. Nixon 1969-1974 WATERGATE

● 17 June 1972● 5 men broke in to the Democratic National Committee headquarter in Washington

D.C.● They did that too find information about the appointees.● President Nixon was accused for being the head mind behind all this.● Many off Nixon’s employees did get punishment, such as fines and jail.● Nixon himself got away without any punishment. But he resigned 8 august 1974.

RELIGION

● 59% (2002) said that the religion had a important roll in there lifes.● 78,4% (2007) said said that they where christians.● Protestant communities had 51%● Roman Catholicism had 23,9% the biggest religious group.● 4,7% (2007) was none christians.● Judaism (1.7%).● Buddhism (0.7%).● Islam (0.6%).● Hinduism (0.4%) .

Jonte: cool. Well here is what I’ve found about Sport and culture:___________________________________________________________The major league baseball (MLB) winners were New York Mets. They won against Baltimore Oriales with 4-1. New York Jets won the superbowl that year. They won against Baltimore Colts with 16-7.Orville Moody won the US open in 1969. (GOLF) Woodstock was one of the greatest music events that year.The Who and Jimi Hendrix are just a few of the famous artists who played. Elvis Presley made “In the Ghetto” that year. It was a superhit. There were many good movies released that year. For example Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid starring huge stars like Robert Redford and Paul Newman. It was the top grossing movie of that year earning in 46 million dollars. The fashion back then was very flashy. Leather and cardigans was the thing. The pants were big and wide at the bottom and getting skinnier and skinnier the further up you came. Niki: That was fun to know. Oliver: Architecture in 1969: The architecture in the late 1960s was called “New Brutalism” taken from the French word “béton brut” = Raw Concrete. It’s because most of the architects back then used square structures made of concrete or brick. The 60’s trends for individual expression and informality surfaced in architecture, a breach between accepted standards and creative design grew.A new generation of architects grew, forming a communication network that promoted and expanded the exchange of ideas outside academia.The architects said that architecture is more than the creation of isolated structures, and it required social and environmental considerations too.With the use of space age technology, real and envisioned, it led to a more ecologically architecture.__________________________________________________________Later that day, we saw the news in our Hotel room.They talked about that the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Max Delbrück, Alfred D. Hershey and Salvador E. Luria.Niki: That is exactly what I found in my research! They also said that the first man on the earth would be sent to the moon on the next day.We decided to go and see how they was sent to the moon.____________________________________________________________The next day, we went to the Kennedy Space Centre.It was so unreal, and we are happy that we were there to see it.The building was huge.We had to look up to see the whole building, and the sun glared our vision.The space centre was full of people.We couldn’t see much, because it was so crowded.There was a big spaceship that was set up and ready for launch. Suddenly, we saw Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins.They went straight to the spaceship.We couldn’t hear each other, because everyone was clapping and screaming.And then, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 …And they were sent up.________________________________________________________Our mission was done.All the research we made and the work we put into it was all worth it.We went back to the now-time with new knowledge.We haven’t decided our next destination, butThis was 1 of the most amazing things that we have seen.
