TIME FOR TEAMWORK: Double Match Opportunity!

Volume XLIV July/August 2020 No. 5

THE MATCH HAS BEEN LIT!

A single match casts only a small circle of light. Two matches together give a bit more illumination. But many matches joined together generate a light that can penetrate the deepest darkness.

YOUR MATCH HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE! At the time of this publication, the Summer Matching Fund goal is over 85% met.

THANK YOU to the providers of the original 50K double-match, and to those who increased it to 65K!

THANK YOU for adding your match too. Thank you, not only for your generous financial gift, but your words of encouragement, and your prayers too. Imagine the light of the Gospel penetrating darkened hearts around the world! Like this Arabic-speaking listener:

This double-match opportunity con-tinues through August 15th. If you haven’t yet participated, we welcome you to add your match to the blaze.

This is a very spiritually dark region of the world with a pre-dominately Muslim population. The light of Jesus is desperately needed there.

We see two critical and strategic reasons for this expanded outreach. First, many pastors and evange-lists are being denied entry in villages where there is no Gospel witness. The radio broadcasts cannot be so easily prevented from entering private homes. Second, many people are illiterate; if they’re going to receive the Gospel, it must come by hearing.

Please join us in praying for millions of Telugu-speaking people!

“VANDANALU JESU”

TELUGU AIRS EARLY!In the January issue of this newsletter, we an-

nounced plans to begin broadcasting in the Telugu language of India. Trans World Radio had informed us that the programs would begin in October 2020.

In early June, we received notification that the broadcast will begin on July 5th! “Vandanalu Jesu” means “thank you, Jesus!”

Hi! I’m Tony Hollinger and this is my wife, Erika. We have been blessed with 7 years of marriage and 4 children. We live in the city of Reading and are part of Fairview Mennonite Church. I work in the outdoor power equipment industry and Erika is a pre-medi-cal student at Albright College. We are amazed what God is doing through Heralds of Hope, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve!

* * *I am Kenneth Martin, hap-

pily married for 18 years to Au-drey (Rohrer) with 6 children. I live in Harrisonburg, VA on a small farm raising poultry for a farmer-owned cooperative, manage a small nursery busi-

ness, and operate a compost facility. I taught middle and high school for several years

and have served on the school board at Calvary

Christian Academy. I have also taught music and di-rected the choir at SMBI and continue to participate periodically as staff at Family week. The message of music and its importance in the formation of culture is a passion of mine. I continue to be an active board member of Shenandoah Christian Music Camp.

It is exciting to be a part of the work at Heralds of Hope. The potential of HOH to bring Christ’s mes-sage of freedom and redemption to a broken world is tremendous and it is humbling to be positioned to contribute more than materially.

We extend a warm welcome to Tony and Kenneth!

Telugu is the 4th largest language group

in India with nearly 74 million

people who speak it.

THEPRESIDENT’S VIEW

ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?

is often not only a seemingly thankless job, but it also increasingly draws overt attacks. Is it any wonder this role is under fire?

I see two core reasons for the position being an easy target. The first reason stems from the reality that the position, as well as its intrinsic goals, are diametrically opposed to the god and agenda of this world. Yes, we should speak up about what is right. But, as I observe our culture, I wonder if anybody is even listening to what others say. We all have so much to say that no one has time or energy to really listen. Here’s the picture: children arguing, holding their hands over their ears, trying to out-scream the next one. In general, we simply are not listening.

The second reason fathers are under fire is because of our failures. As a leader, I can almost hear the weary sigh, “Oh boy, here we go again,” coming from my own lips. We can at length decry the deplorable state of our culture, and deep inside, all of us know the truth…we are at fault. We know internally that we all have missed the mark at times.

Now, regardless of whether I believe my eye contains the log or the speck, if I am a leader, then it seems reasonable that those I lead will mirror and amplify my behavior. Here are two questions that present themselves: Am I really listening? Is our culture simply mirroring what they have seen modeled by me?

As fathers and leaders, we can’t do much about the first core reason. However, it is within our power to listen to, and learn from, our failures. Amidst the endless line of people waiting to tell us how we have done it wrong, there’s no reason to be discouraged or succumb to the victim mentality. The reality is, there is usually at least some truth in the criticisms we receive. It’s imperative that we listen because it’s the truth that sets us free. There is hope for everyone when we as leaders grasp these realities. I believe that if we can close our own mouths long enough to listen to what they’re saying, and ask wise questions, it may lead us all into a healthier, more Christ-like place.

So, to all fathers, this is not a scream to “close your mouth,” but rather an invitation to “open your ears.” We must lead toward Christ and we cannot do so in silence. However, as we lead, know

THANK YOU for the gener-ous response in donations this last quarter! We were so blessed that some of you invested all or part of your government stimulus check in works of eternal value.

Join us in praising God that the $28,800 needed to print 30,000 Bi-ble lessons has been donated! This will bless Jr. High students through Torch Ministries in Ghana.

Pastor Ohene finally arrived safely back home to Ghana on June 25. However, he is required to quarantine for two weeks and test negative for COVID-19 before returning to his family in July.

One highlight of Ohene’s time was spending a few days with the Tony High family in Bradford. PA. To read Tony’s account of their ex-periences, visit our blog!

With your generous donations, and a $50,000 grant from a chari-table foundation, we have received $117,090 towards the $150,000 needed for HOPE Bible printing and shipping.

We have placed the order for 30,000 copies. The printer in Belarus projects shipment to our ministry partners in September.

Your continued partnership en-ables us to keep on heralding the Good News together.

“Teacher, we are all fine! But outside our

home, all the roads are locked down, no coming

in and no going out. We do have people from Wuhan in our

village. Because it is total lock-down, we are not al-lowed to visit each other.”

“To someone like me, the world seemed to change very quickly. And I am thankful that all the station staff is holding the fort to broadcast the gospel pro-grams. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you. Today, I took out my radio and listened to your program again.”

that people are watching and learning…maybe from what we say, but much more from how we live.

This guest article was written by Jeremy Sensenig, Donor Relations.

“Teacher, I did not quarrel with them, I just want to communicate my view with you. It is not easy to find someone of the same mind-set in church. I can-not talk to the people in church too casually about my thoughts, otherwise, there may be conflict.”

“Thank God! Let us join in the 40 days of fast-ing and prayer. May God’s victorious anointing be poured out upon us: unto China, and Wuhan, China. And may China be able to turn the situation around, from a failure in the pandemic to be a victor. We want to receive and may this anointing fall upon us.”
