Wind Load

The Innovative High-tech Foundation System thatdefines strength and simplicity

On two days in May 2001, government andeducational researchers used the propwash from aC-130 to test the strength of a single sectionmanufactured home. Against sustained winds of80-90 mph, gusting to 110 mph, the VectorDynamics system did not allow any movement ofthe foundation or the home.

Full Scale TestingIn order to simulate the effects of windloading (drag loads), Tie Down used a seriesof winches attached to dynomometers whichwere connected to the opposite wind sideouter frame section. Special frame hooksattached to equalization cables were used tomaintain uniform loads during testing.

Zone III hurricane drag loads simulating 120 mph

As wind loadsincrease, lee sidepier compressive forcessimultaneously increase the VectorFoundation Pad’s resistance to horizontal sliding.

Both single stack and double stack concreteblock pier configurations can be set on each ofthe three Vector ground set Pads. Checkapplicable regulations for pier requirementsand for maximum pier heights on single stackand double stack unreinforced piers.

Typical Installations

Metal Piers

Concrete Footers

Metal piers or jack stands are readily adapted to the Vector System. U-bolts clampthe metal piers between the compression strutand the Vector Foundation Pads. Metal piersare generally limited to sets not exceeding 30”(below frame).

Concrete footers, pads, slabs, or runners providefor an extremely stable Vector installation set.Concrete footers are most commonly used forpermanent foundations and/or where frost heaveoccurs. Concrete expansion anchor bolts require aminimum 4” footer depth. Concrete should be2500 psi. tensile strength minimum for all Vectorconcrete footer sets.

Tie Down’s Longitudinal Stabilization Device isdesigned to combine with Vector’s Lateralcomponent to easily and economically addressboth wind and seismic loads imposed on all foursides of a manufactured home. Once thelongitudinal device is installed, the addition of acompression member and cross tension strapscombines the longitudinal/lateral into onesystem (L2SD).
