WHITE ELEPHANTWith Dot Davis
I would like to thank EVERYONE that participated in this year's white elephant - we couldn't do it without all of you. Dot
A NOTE FROM MIKEWith Mike Albaugh
Greetings to all at Pescara Lake!We are in hopes everyone had a wonderful holiday season this December. We had very delightful weather
for Christmas, a few blasts of cooler weather, but all in all, not too shabby. By the time this gets printed, we already have had the annual “white elephant” sale, I hope the HOA collected more this year than before.
Now that most everybody is down here, I ask that you please take some time to walk your property and look at your home, do you need power washing done? Do you need to repaint your trim? Is your roof black? Does your driveway/sidewalk need repainted? Etc. Also when outside, please look around at your plantings; are they in need of trimming? removing? If your site is along the fence line, are your bushes trimmed back and trimmed up so the mowers can get thru without the possibility of catching a limb in the eye? We all picked Pescara Lake for its beauty and its upkeep of the residents’ homes/lots. Let’s get it back to where it should be!
To our recent new residents, the HOA Board would love to see you getting involved with the projects that your board puts out for everyone, but they are in need of assistance of others to make these things go without a hitch. I am hoping that more and more residents get involved and make the HOA the best it can be for everyone’s enjoyment.
Until next month (if I remember).Mike.
SUNSHINE NEWSWith Gail Hunter
Where does the time go.... seems like yesterday was Christmas and tomorrow is Valentines Day. No wonder I feel older and older with each passing day! It was quite a busy month so let's get started.
Get well cards went out to Dick Provard #162; Tina Wagoner #98, Linda Klar #216, Peggy Brown #169, and Darlene (Sutton) Galloway #221. Hope all are on that road to recovery. There was only one sympathy card sent (one too many) and that went out to Frank Witham #210 upon the passing of his wife Mary.
Welcome to all the returning snowbirds, hope you all had a nice summer and are happy to have left all that snow, ice, cold and in one word horrible weather and are ready to enjoy the sun and warmth of Florida. Remember any news, please phone Gail Hunter 941-752-6872.

The Tidings is always online. The current issue goes online each month between the 1st and 4th day of the month. The address is www.4CommunityMedia.com - just click on the heading called ‘Newsletters’ and choose ‘Pescara Lake’.
Dear Pescara Lake Residents –As we look forward to the upcoming year, I am
pleased to report that 50% of the residences in our Park now have a member in the Home Owners Association (HOA) for the 2016-2017 year. That is up from 42% the year before. We would love to see that percentage grow even more in the upcoming year!
As a member of the HOA, you can be part of the decisions around what activities we plan, what fundraisers to do and how to spend those funds to keep us active and healthy. The HOA has worked with Management and the Park owners have provided funds for holiday meals, a new sound system for the Club House and a mechanism for opening and closing the pool.
Why not share a little Valentine love – join us at the next HOA meeting at the Club House on February 14, 2017 at 6:00. Light refreshments and door prizes will be provided.

Not All Roofers Are Created Equal! When choosing a business to do work on your home it is important to consider all the factors. Sometimes the cheapest option is not the best. Keep these tips in mind the next time you choose a service provider, especially a roofer.
How Many Years in Business? This demonstrates expertise in the field. If a warranty is involved it shows the company’s ability to stand behind it. If a company has been around for a long time, it is probably for a good reason.
Who Is Doing the Actual Work?Does the company use subcontractors or their own employees? Employees tend to me more reliable because the business owner holds them accountable day-to-day versus subcontractors who can come and go.
Consider More Than The Price!A roof is a durable product meant to last for years. When it comes to durable goods for your home like roofs, air conditioners, windows, etc. who installs them can be an important factor. Remember the old adage “Good work isn’t cheap...Cheap work isn’t good...”

MAILROOM PROTOCOLWith Randy Almendinger
There have been complaints of mail left unattended and unsecured on the table in the mailroom. Apparently, this mail was either delivered to the wrong lock box or the addressee no longer lives at that address. There also have been comments that wrongly delivered mail has been simply thrown away.
If the addressee no longer lives at that address, then simply write RETURN TO SENDER, NO FORWARDING ADDRESS on the envelope and put it in the outgoing mail slot.
If the mail was delivered to the wrong lock box, simply put it into the slot labeled POSTMANS EYES. The postman will redeliver the mail tot he proper lock box.
IN NO INSTANCE SHOULD PRIVATE MAIL BE LEFT ON THE TABLE!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be kind to your neighbor.

Page 4 Pescara Lake TidingsPESCARA BOWLING LEAGUE
With Elaine Jurkowski, secretary
Bowling for this season started on November 19 and we are now starting our eighth week. We only have 9 teams so far this year, down from our usual 10 teams. This only gives us 35 members who are participating on Mondays at 10 am. Everyone is out for a good time and that is what we do. We still have a few openings if anyone would like to join a fun time and us for good exercise.
Now I will give you a little update on how everyone is doing. As of December 26 our standings are as follows: the Oranges again are in first place andthe Canucks are giving them a run for the position. Don’t forget this is a fun league and every week the standings change.
The time is going by so fast… I can’t believe there are less than 10 weeks left to bowl. Before we know, it will be time to think about returning North!
DECEMBER COFFEE HOURWith Earl Cote, Elaine & Don Jurkowski
Elaine, Don and Earl hosted the coffee hour for December 3 and 19. It makes it easier to host the whole month -- it is only 2 Saturdays. (This way we don’t have such a hard time getting a host).
Due to the White Elephant Sale there is no coffee hour for January 21. Mario and Ruth Hernandez will host January 7 and February 4. We also have two volunteers for February 18 – Robert Maddalena and Deborah D’Alessio. Thanks for your help.
During December we had 21 and 19 neighbors attending. Happy Birthday to Nanci Paddock, Linda Barth and Randy Almendinger. Happy Anniversary to Mario and Ruth Hernandez who celebrated 32 wonderful years.
RUSTY ZIPPER MEN’S BREAKFAST CLUB
With Lloyd Ecker
Thirteen men attended to talk sports and tried to avoid politics! Talked about upcoming White Elephant sale, enjoyed each other’s company and good food at Fiona’s. Good to see a few old faces returning.
Next one is February 17 at Fiona’s. Hope to see you there!
THANK YOUFrom the Tennants
On behalf of the Pescara Lake Music and Light Show committee, I would like to thank everyone for their donations, and help that made our third show a success.
On a personal note: In December of 2013, Dave and I were invited my Mike and Sonya Albaugh, to go see a light show in Sarasota. With some reluctance, we persuaded Dave to go. At the end, as Sonya and I drank our hot chocolate, Dave and Mike were crawling around checking out control panels and electrical connections. By the end of the week the Pescara Lake Music and Light show committee was formed. For the past three years, Dave and I have been working with our committee and have created, what we think, a great show and a great contribution to the community. We would like to thank all of you for the nice comments, cards and phone calls we have received the past three years. Dave and I would like to especially thank, Sonya Albaugh, Pam Nebel and Gerry Poisson, for being there with us from the beginning, working hard and contributing a lot of great ideas.
We are now turning everything over to Gerry Poisson, with the hope that he will get the same cooperation that Dave and I have had. Thanks again and looking forward to a great show next year. Mary Tennant
CONGRATULATIONSFrom the Pescara Lake Music and Light Show

SHERLOCK CRACKS THE CASE:Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a
camping trip, pitching their tent under the stars and going to sleep. In the middle of the night, Holmes woke Watson up. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.” “Millions and millions of stars.” Watson replied. “And what do you deduce from that?” Sherlock inquired.
“Well, if there are millions of stars and a few of those have planets, it’s quite likely there are planets like Earth out there. And if there are planets like Earth out there, there might also be life.”
“Watson, you idiot” Holmes replied. “It means that somebody stole our tent.”

POTLUCK THANKS & HOW-TO’SA BIG “THANK YOU” to everyone who attended
and who helped prepare for , and who helped clean up after … our November, December and January potlucks!
We served Turkey, we served Ham, and we served Lasagna at the various gatherings, and had nearly a hundred attendees each month!
For our newcomers, here’s how it’s supposed to go -- during the 6 months of the winter season, we post in the hallway of the clubhouse so everyone who wants to attend can sign up and let us know how many are attending. The Homeowners Association purchases the entrée according to the number of folks who have signed up. The host team prepares the entrée.
We gather on the assigned date and everyone brings their own plates, silverware and drinks. Each person who expects to dine is responsible for bringing a side dish that will serve approx 6 to 8 servings. (Each diner should bring a side, not just one for a household). The hall fills up between 5 and 5:30, and after
short announcements the tables are called to start the serving process. Good food and good times follow, and everyone is asked to clean up their area before leaving.
It takes a lot of time and energy to get everything done, so we appreciate our volunteers a great deal! We ask that anyone who can help with the tasks, please volunteer in any way you can. If you can be a host, please step up and volunteer – we have plenty of folks who will help you with the process.
Again, “THANK YOU” to everyone who has been volunteering this season.
