A 2- or 3-day BRNOPAS is valid for entire calendar days.

The Jurkovič House from 1906 was designed by Slovak architect Dušan Samuel Jurkovič and forms the core of his preserved work in the Czech Republic. In the baroque Governor’s Palace, which dates back to the 14th century, you can get familiar with art from the Gothic era to the 19th century through the perma-nent exhibition. This historical cellar was discovered du-ring a survey of the Brno underground in 1999. The cellar, which was presu-mably dug under the house belonging to Mint Master Bruno and later to Mikuláš of Věž, was opened to the public in 2007. 10-Z is the code name for a shelter which was supposed to serve representatives of the city and entire region during the Communist era and the existence of which was kept top secret. It was origi-nally built during the Nazi occupation as a shelter for civil air protection against American and Soviet air raids on Brno. In the ossuary under the Church of St. James, you can see a unique area discovered during a survey in 2001. Anthropologists report that it contains the remains of people who died in the Middle Ages and also Thirty Years’ War. Its exhibition shows how people used to be buried in one of the biggest cemete-ries in Brno.

PENITENTIARY IN CEJL STR. KÁZNICE NA CEJLU

The origins of this exceptional building located on Cejl Street date back to the end of the 18th century. During its long history, it has served as a county penitentiary. Originally built right outside the city walls, it is now located close to the city centre. Very few people know that political pris-oners were executed here during the Nazi and Communist regimes in the 20th century.

JIŘÍ MAHEN LIBRARY KNIHOVNA JIŘÍHO MAHENA

This is the second largest public library in the Czech Republic. It offers a wide selection of books and magazines, and sheet music. You can borrow e-readers, various aids for children with disabili-ties, board games, and educational sets. The library has 35 branches throughout Brno and is a place where people meet for author readings, exhibitions, and con-certs. It also administers the Mahen Memorial in Brno’s Masaryk neighbou-rhood (Masarykova čtvrť) and its exhi-bition on the life and work of Jiří Mahen.

ARTISSIMO

ARTISSIMO welcomes children and adul-ts who enjoy creating things and sha-ring their ideas with other art lovers. You can use the equipment to work with ceramics, glass, porcelain, and enamel. The art shop also sells various gifts and souvenirs. You can even arrange special courses for individuals or groups.
