YAK

Yak is a type of food, and is

a very popular in the

Northern Plateau.

This is because the

climate is very cold,

and it is very dry so

they cannot grow

crops.

Yaks provide many things for

Tibetans. Things they provide

include...

Meat Yak meat is used for lots of

traditional Tibetan food. Yak meat

is used in dishes like stew, and

also Yak jerky.

Tea Yak tea is very popular in Tibet. This is

because it gives them a bulk in their calories,

that they cannot get otherwise! Tibetans

drink 60~80 cups of tea a day. (The Yak milk

is used to make the tea)

Mandalas are a form of meditation. They are

Intricate designs carefully made with colored

sand. They take a very long time to make, and

lots of concentration.

Mandalas

When monks are done making the

mandala they will sweep up the sand and

throw it in a river.

This is to show

that you should

not get too

attached to

material items

because they don't

last forever.

Mandalas usually have an image of

Buddha in the middle. Mandalas are also

part of Tibetan Buddhism.
